England have won the last five matches against Argentina, including a two match series in Argentina, so England should be firm favourites here.

Should - on recent form that's not the case...

Feel like Argentina might win this one at home. They’ve got a shocking recent record against us but I think they’ll be pumped for this. I can imagine the crowd, by rugby’s standards, being quite hostile this weekend. Not to the level of that other sport of course, but we’ll certainly know we’re away from home.

Argentina always want to beat England a little too much and I think that affects them. Whatever the psychological reality of this fixture England do seem to have the hex on them.

I don’t think winning in the round ball game would help our cause much.

On a serious note we've missed a HUGE opportunity to look at the hooker situation this whole tournament.

George - 35/36?
LCD - Operating with one shoulder permanently at 70% now

Then
Blamire (28) - 7 Caps , and cant hit a barn door with a lineout
Dan (25) - 20 caps, has he actually played a minute this tournament?
Landgon (28) - 4 Caps

Any other "Capped" players ive missed?
Are they holding on that Tuipolotu will come through? Or Craig Wright...?

i still think Seb Blake was a missed opportunity.

Can’t figure out whether this game’s a so what or critical to SB’s future. Either way, suspect he’ll go full strength again.

Mental that some clubs have already started pre season while our top guys continue to get flogged. Earl for example played 29 matches last year, finishing early August with the Lions. Back playing for Sarries in mid October presumably after some sort of a pre season and here he is 28 matches later in mid July still racking up the air miles and battering into defences. He must be mentally exhausted and sick of the sight of a rugby ball.

You sound surprised?

There are also the likes of Dunn and Walker who have a few test minutes and Jibulu who’s on the naughty step.

Dan’s in the current squad, patently not trusted but a fair bit of time has been invested in him. So I guess he’s clear 3rd choice with SB praying LCD and George stay fit.

Tuipolotu could be a bolter but he’s still v inexperienced at club level and it’s a hell of a jump from there to the international front row.

I honestly think Borthwick is going with what he thinks is the best available for the RWC

Everything else is in the folder marked that's a problem for the new guy

I'd say he needs to massively improve his darts to be considered but we've given Dan double figures of caps so who knows

George turns 37 during the tournament and has been patently dropping off for a while. LCD will be 34 and is injury prone. The 3rd hooker has to have some decent experience.

Looks like it’s Dan. Don’t really agree, but if he’s SB’s man then he should be getting the game time to fix his issues, not being hidden.

Thats my big issue. Hes clearly 3rd choice over the past few season but hes not had a minute this tournament. Why not? IF hes not trusted to play against SA and Particularly FIJI!!! then whats he doing in the bloody squad. If hes not picked for the Argentina game then theres a big problem.

I was amused in the ARG v SCO game, that when Scotland scored there was a dead silence from the crowd.

Never heard a crowd go so quiet.

The lack of posts on this thread screams about the enthusiasm for this game.

I always feel confident to some extent going onto an Argentinian game but not this one.

I think Fiji may have been a false dawn with how poorly they played and the fact they had 14 players.

I also have a sinking feeling that Borthwick will revert to type and play quite a different style (again) as he’ll quote a hostile atmosphere nonsense.

Really hope I’m wrong and hope we keep the same style and tactics even if we lose.

Think selection will be the same but also hope we don’t see BVR at 13 or 12, leave him on the bench or preferably in South Africa where he belongs.

I dont actually think anyone is taking the Fiji game as a dawn of any kind, a good win this weekend will be the dawn but still we need to back it up in the 6N and I think this is the issue, not backing up performances.

Style we will go back to kicking but you cant kick to much to Argentina as they just run it back at you again and again.

On BJVR he's in the team and a 12 not a 13, as hes in the team I'm over it just pick him at 12 if he is the best, id keep Atkinson and Slade tbh.

Its a meaningless competition. Ive said it from the moment it was announced.

Its been great for the Tier 2, Tier 3 teams etc but not for the major ones.

If we have to go with the same tournament make the Tier one sides play a Development / A side and then it might be more interesting.

I will contradict some here (whilst also showing how subjective this is) but I feel this tournament has been a much needed shot in the arm for our sport. I do enjoy the traditional summer test series & A.Is, & there are still logistical questions to answer when the NH sides travel to the SH. But the 6 matches on one day & interlinking of each test match to a league, which ultimately leads to a finals weekend is working very very well & gives another level of interest.
People criticised the World Cup in its inaugural year in 1987 & look how it has grown. I think the nations championship has the potential to become a permanent -& welcome- event.

I know people wanna encourage personalities
I've never really understood when commentators (read: Nick Mullins) bang on about this constantly - when someone's personality is obnoxious and unpleasant why do we want to champion that

Pollock is every negative rugby stereotype rolled up into one - him being exciting on the pitch doesn't mean we should all queue up to celebrate him off it
