So we are in agreement, it is absolutely good news. The outcome may be varied, but the fact they are discussing it is a huge step, Hamas has discussed partial disarmment previously, but i think this is the first time that they have agreed to a plan to disarm (I may be wrong).

How so? If Hamas have never agreed to a disarmment plan vefore, but have just done so thats a huge slice of oprimism that everyone in that region hasnt had for a long time... regardless of what happens, Palestinians will be waking up to a news sense of hope no?

What would you prefer, peace in Palestine, and Trump getting overwhelming (un)deserved plaudits, novel peace prize and and a statue in Gaza for being a hero, or for it all to fall through and he drifts away into obscurity over the next 2 years, dooming the region of continued violence for god knows how long?

I should add the caveat that it depends how just that peace was.

If the peace was all the Palestinians were thrown out of the West Bank and Gaza then no. Likewise if the “peace” was all Palestinians outside of the west bank and Gaza allowed the right to return to form a single state were Jews were essentially a minority and thrown out of Israel then again, I wouldn’t be a fan

I meant negotiated, both sides agree to live in harmony type peace.

Although, i think we have discissed this before, the only way to ensure peacenin the region seems to be the eradication of Hamas , if Isreal throw down their weapons the country will be slaughtered, if Hamas do it they could see some temporary benefit, and rebuild to the next October 7th.

Hamas could also be desperate, and dropping weapons might be the negotiation to not be seen as weak and desperate, and losing control.

Id take a bitnof optimism right now though if I were there, hell id love to just stop seeing idiots wave Palestine flags, and that includes british politicians hahaha

Theres a term called defencive pessimism, essentially meaning cynical people prepare for the worst outcome, usually well, with optimism that that preperation yields positive outcome.

I subscribe to the theory when riding my motorcycle, that i ride like everyone is out to get me, it prepares me for the worst and provides constant positive outcomes. Sames as in work, i risk assess the **** out of anything, with the view of avoiding disaster, the same way I coached rugby to a decent standard, injury prevention etc.

I bet you do it in your own life as well, all of our views and actions are situational and dynamic.

A just peace? Is there such a thing? Just in this instance would probably look incredibly violent depending on who you speak to.

I dont know about %, maybe 5% - 10% if im being super optimistic! Thats 4% - 9% higher than before the anouncement though, and thats a step in the right direction IMO.
