Saracens' Schalk Brits has rejoined the Stormers on loan ahead of their Super Rugby semi-final against the Crusaders at Newlands on Saturday.

Ooooooooh!
Very keen to see how he does in Super Rugby
Must be angling for a WC training spot, or at least be high up the list of reserves (though playing at flank rather than hooked would dent his chances as SA have a good amount of flankers around)
People always say he plays like a flank, now we get to see him doing just that

Well it will certainly be interesting to see how he goes in Super rugby (what with all the hype from up North) if he gets a chance. He will probably even if only 20/30 minutes. Playing against a combination of Read/McCaw/Todd... well, if he manages that then I will start singing a different tune regarding him.

Since when were teams allowed to just borrow players when it suits them? It's getting silly now. Some teams are having to play with players they've developed to back up injuries, whereas others just seem to fly them in when it suits them. At least when the Reds and Crusaders brought in Caleb Ralph/Reuben Thorne they were playing club rugby within the country.

Atleast Caleb Ralph lives in Queensland and Thorne lives in Christchurch. Brits plays for a professional team half way across the world and is only coming in for the semi-final and potentially the final. I don't see why SANZAR allowed this. It's not like they even have serious injury problems, it's just to bring him in as they think it will help to win. I hope the Crusaders pump them just like the Sharks who I think also cheated by bringing in Michalak.

Look at what the Crusaders did against the Stormers. Matt Todd played on the wing, that is an injury crisis, not this.

Atleast we all know the Reds and the Crusaders will do it by playing fair, if either of them wins it, not some poaching session of lower clubs just to better their chances (Lions and Cheetahs).

I fully agree. But even with Brits I think the Crusaders will win. Don't forget Michalak played only the second week he was in SA. Brits will be jetlaged and I doubt he will contribute that much

Slightly surprised that SANZAR gave Brits the dispensation to play. He could be a useful ball runner off the bench with 20-30 to go, but if he replaces either Burger or Louw the Stormers may struggle at the breakdown, as their loose-trio would consist of a wing/number 8, a hooker/centre, and one genuine loose-forward (meanwhile the Crusaders would be bringing another openside flanker off the bench..).

It is a shame that Brett didn't get injured last week so that the Blues could call Nick Evans up for their clash against the Reds. So much for the famed Saffa playing depth.

Brits was picked cos its a Knockout game and the stormers are facing a crisis at loose at the moment. I dont think he would have been picked if it was not for the fact that he is playing for Sacerans also as they and the stormers have a business relationship and they did not demand insurance monies to release him , furthermore I heard he was already in CT on holiday as he is from CT and his family stays down here.

PersonallY i would not pick him but he played for the stormers at flank already so jaa.

Oh sorry also to add , he was picked cos Siya Kolisi was mugged over the weekend and had to withdraw due to his injuries and mental state , apparently he is okay but his shoulder is a bit hurt and he is in a state of shock , Siya Kolisi is a backup flank for the Stormers , well up and coming one at least and along with Duane Vermeulen the stormers are looking a little thin at loosies.

I have lost a lot of respect for South African rugby just by watching the Super rugby this season. It has opened my eyes to what goes on in the South African franchises.

Stormers have a few injuries in the loose, so what? Waratahs had bigger injury problems. Massive amount of players injured. If SANZAR are allowing this, why didn't they allow players like; James O'Connor, Nathan Sharpe, Matt Giteau, Adam Ashley-Cooper and more to join the Waratahs for their finals. Why would this be wrong? Because they are already contracted to another team professionally, just like Brits. I think this is very disrespectful to the Reds, Crusaders, Blues and Waratahs who have all had injury crisis throughout the year but don't resort to this form of cheating. Maybe the Crusaders should should bring in; Nonu, Hosea Gear, Ben Smith and Aaron Cruden as there are a few injuries to the Crusaders.

Well, even looking outside of players currently contracted, whats to say the Blues shouldn't have Carl Hayman, Jerry Collins, Nick Evans, Byron Kelleher, Doug Howlett, Jimmy Gopperth, Sam Tuitupou and Isa Nacewa? It would certainly benefit them. The fact is, it's wrong. Some teams have been devistated with injuries, where the Stormers have been relatively pretty well off. It just seems a little bit cheap to bring in players who are rested and have not been a part of the franchise for several years, just to unfairly advantage them in a finals game.

Personally I don't like it either. I would have gone for junior player Eben Etzebeth or Nizaam Carr even though they haven't been contracted to the Stormers. That said, I do think there is a big difference between getting someone from overseas who has finished their involvement for the season in their particular tournament on board who hasn't been involved with the competition and getting someone from another team in your competition. At the end of the day we have no back-up loose forward and need to get someone from outside or what, forfeit the match? Whether they are from the junior ranks (a S15 final might be putting them in a dangerous position though) or someone with strong ties (played for Stormers, is in CT, Saracens and Stormers have the same owners) to the Stormers, I care little although I do see your point.

Well, if there are NO, NONE, NADA contracted players to replace injured players then fine IMO. Saying the Stormers have been well off RE injuries is a bit of a joke though; name me one other team that have had to have 7, thats right 7 different goal kickers and 6 differents fly halves... you simply can't. Players that have to sit out injured through the season;

Tiaan Liebenberg
CJ van der Linde
Brok Harris
Anton van Zyl
Pieter Louw
Duane Vermeulen
Dewaldt Duvenhage
Peter Grant
Gary van Aswegen
Lionel Cronje
Kurt Coleman
Jaque Fourie
Bryan Habana
Conrad Jantjes

That's just from the top of my head.

Wait:
Are you sure Schalk Brits is still in contract with Saracens?

Because it might be expired a few weeks ago (2 years deal, 2009-2011...), and while they (Sarries & Brits) are waiting to re-sign a new one, or split, Brits still could be without a contract, at this moment .
If so, I think there are no problem if he wants to join a team for a couple of weeks, to play again some hi-level rugby, maybe hoping for a call with his national side.

But I don't know his position with Saracens FC!
