[2019 Rugby Championship] Round 3: Argentina vs. South Africa (10/08/2019)

yes yes we where crap. but remember this is a meaningless game after trying hard vs the abs and loosing, there was no point in this or the next game ( I predict a closer result)
it ment a lot for the bocks who grabbed a much needed championship. now the can sail calmly into the wc.
as for los pumas IMO the are more like looking to get through these games whit no injuries. there was no intensity they didn't show up.
all this doesn't mean is gonna be so at the wc. don't count your money yet.
was thinking about our " advantages" of playing together all year long. some of us argued it would be more like worn off zero energy at the end. it was.

What the Wallabies did to you, we just repeated, Your set-pieces were horrendous. The Bajada scrum seems like a distant memory now.

It seems like your guys were out of puff after the first 10 minutes. And that second half was just woeful.

Anyways, I'm a very happy Springbok supporter. That performance was the highlight of my long-weekend, and I'm glad I stayed up to watch the game and the trophy presentation. Rassie is now the first South African to have won the SH international tournament as both player and a coach. I can't believe it's been 9 years since we've won the trophy, and the first time we've won it since Argentina joined.

Very good performances all around, although I thought that Faf and Mapimpi were our poorest performers.

Kolbe at scrumhalf does pose the question if we should take 3 scrumhalfs to the WC. I can see us only taking 2, with kolbe as the 3rd choice, and have another utility player in the ranks.

This idea of Kolbe at no 9 should be rubbished off.
You DO NOT want him at no 9 in a world cup semi final due to injuries or what ever.

Try Frans Steyn or Schalk Brits as flankers, 6 and 7 for ten minutes, both would do just fine because of their natural ability but now to say leave a specialist at home just because they didn't screw up in their little cameo performance is a lack of insight in my opinion. Stick to what works with the best players-> consistency and belief <-

Glad for the ***le. I'm not one to read too much into 'curses' etc surrounding RC winners not going on to claiming RWC ***les. The sample size is just too small and there are too many variables at play. ***le was there for the taking and we took it. Good job.

On the up side the majority of the team picked up where they left off. The feeling I got post game was that the focus is still very much on improving leading into the RWC.

On the ifs.. Faf had an off day. Not reading too much into that performance. Mapimpi despite one good run and finish still is our weakest point IMO. Hoping Dyantyi can make a recovery in time and hit the ground running. Kwagga Smith has been quiet every cap in green he has got. Suppose I will have to et my words and concede he is not up to test rugby. Louw has been much more impactful. Guess Kolisi coming back in will make Kwagga's no-show a non-concern though. I still think our centers aren't world class but we seem to be managing? Can Etzebeth please just not jump into tackles like that ever again. Think we were very lucky to get away with that and those two times we got away were at critical junctures. We even scored a try off the one penalty we got. I still think we were in the ascendancy and would likely have eked out a win considering our scrum dominance if nothing else but.. while crystal balling is pointless.. I do think it could/would/should've been a much tighter game.

Yeah, Kolbe is our clear best option at 14. We have 3 good options at 9 even if Faf looked a tad off his game this one and Jantjies is green. No need to mess these players around. Especially not at this stage.

yes i started the sentence with: yes we where crap.. what i ment is that the game really ment a lot for the bokke and very little to the pumas cos there where no chances of anything.
yes the set pieces where terrible and the bokks where very good. its clear that they where and are a better team than los pumas. i thought this was clear. i ment that besides this they where apatic towords this game. they where shitty vs wallabies aswell but managed to stay closer and they could argue the trevel etc. vs the bocks it was at home wich makes it worst
dont think it was the best team. it was almost but petti and lavanini are very important specially at the set piece orlando also missing. isa was poor. kramer is better as flanker than 2nd row. allemano was off pace.

Interesting team, my one worry is the lack of combinations it's almost a "barbarian-esque" squad. As critical of Steyn as I have been in the past I would have thought this was the right game to start him at 12, but perhaps he's going to be our go to 22/23 during the world cup.

Yea it's a team that won't really have consistency in the sense of playing together but I think the confidence and momentum (big words thrown around recently in the media I know) will pull them through together with the individuals trying to prove a thing for the World Cup. I was thinking Kolisi might be off his game in this game but to counter that I thought that Coetzee will have more chance to show why he deserves a we spot by being everywhere and allowing some teammates to become anonymous of it turns out that way.

I wanted Steyn to start. I like Esterhuisen but he is meh at best at international level and I would have liked to see what Steyn could do with a start. Would he have been as energetic as he has been as a sub ?

Reinach simply needs to play out of his skin to get a World Cup spot. I think if it's not a try and man of the match contender then he probably won't be picked. Same goes for Coetzee actually.
