The SNP were derided and discounted before current events. No one expected them to come as close to breaking the union as they did.

It's pretty clear politics is changing. Whether they'll change far enough to accomodate Corbyn in the mainstream I don't know but I wouldn't rule it out. I think it's a really long path uphill for him but...

I'm also not sure I'd agree with YoungScud with him not being a mug. There's a lot of poor presentation and u-turning at the moment. It doesn't inspire faith in his competence and neither does his previous record.
Honestly that is not true. The moment they won an outright majority in the scottish parliament it was always gonna be a fight. They got the people involved in a single romantic issue alongside high approval ratings.

I can't see how any of this is a blueprint for Corbyn. Its so uphill its practically a wall.

That is one of the most insulting phrases I've heard and you've used it twice now. It also confirms that you have not a single clue as to how politics in Scotland has been energised. How dare you describe the desire for self-determination as romantic?

Caviar is a very clever politician who has much in common with her predecessor Smoked!

When she finally stops going on and on about independence, it will be interesting to see how she copes and initiates her plans to give, give, give and how she is going to finance it all.

Only after she has had a couple of years in total charge of welfare budgets and tax raising will she be shown for what she is.....all bluster!!

It is easy to oppose but not so easy to actually lead......

Calm down fella - I'm well aware of how important the independence issue is and have friends who are activists totally devoted to the cause. They admit that it is a romantic issue, as well as a practical issue. Nothing derogatory about romanticism, I'm quite a fan myself.

My point is that the independence question is a major driver political engagement north of the border, and there is no such issue for Corbyn to use.

I mentioned that maybe the EU question could fulfill this role, but i doubt it will grip people in the same way and labour won't be necessarily be the beneficiaries if it does.

Sturgeon is an outstanding politician, and the way she twisted the knife on Ed was exquisite.

The SNP does have challenges ahead though - massive budget cuts, NHS performance pressures, what to do with the new powers over taxes and welfare...

I know the SNP won a ton of seats in the election but how many did they win with 50% of the vote?

Is there any evidence to show another referendum would have a different result? They need a swing of 5% which on an issue like this is massive.

They won 50% overall so assume they got over 50% in many seats.

But that itself doesn't mean that they are any closer to winning an independence vote. Turnout in the GE was lower, so lots of people who wouldn't vote for SNP may have stayed at home. Plus some do vote for the SNP but aren't in favour of full independence. They want devo max or just prefer the SNP to the crappy scottish labour party and the evil conservatives.

Just googled searched him in the news to see what that's about. Saw something about him putting his genitals in a pigs mouth.

Brilliant.

Well, Cassetteboy wasted no time...

It's all a load of porkies. Ouch.

Boo! Get off the stage!

Still think I might believe it. The debunkings from the Piers Gaveston people are hardly the most concrete of stuff while, as Damien McBride pointed out, the response from Cameron's PR team falls squarely in the "Cover-up" corner of strategy.

Basic deficiency in English attitudes is that they forget that the United Kingdom comprises 4 sovereign countries plus various dependencies. As
Okay taking this conversation where it belongs.

What is failed to grasp here is that we are one sovereign state how we choose to admidistrate geographical regions within that state and what to call them has very little bearing on the outside world. And belive you and me it's other countries that fail far harder in understanding the difference between the UK and England far more than the English do.

For me personally I slip between the UK and England without so much as thinking 99% of the time. Mainly because I'm not a nationalist and only ever think of ourselves as separate countries when it comes to sports (where were one of few sovreign states who've split ourselves up on that front in some but not all sports)the region we identify ourselves with.

So sorry I don't conform to nationalistic agenda I don't agree with. I don't think of anyone from Scotland any different from someone from Yorkshire in its up north and they talk funny. Just like I'm from the south West and talk like a farmer.

This mask march thingy going on looks so idiotic.

Is this all because of the V for Vendetta Movie (would say Graphic Novel but let's face only a small amount there would have read it).

Seems like typical Hipster, wanna be Liberal's lot thinking they are like a character in a film.
