Andrew Brace withdrawn from refereeing duty in France over personal abuse

Andrew Brace has been removed from Heineken Champions Cup duty in France next weekend due to personal abuse he was subjected to.

What a sad state rugby is getting to. This has been going on for a while but it seems in recent years the level of abuse being hurled at referees has got gradually worse with many claims of corruption etc. Rugby supposedly likes to think it is a sport where there is a good culture but it seems there is a creeping toxicity entering the game with fans becoming increasingly more abusive to officials and each other.

Rugby needs to have a good look at itself and where it is heading or the sport could end up tearing itself apart as it becomes more toxic.

I mean he was **** but not in a crucial decisions that decided the outcome of the match way. He was just poor all round.

Not that anything condones abuse but it wasn't like there's a deliberate focal point ala Joubert.

Brace received hundreds of abusive messages on Twitter, as a result of what some fans perceived as decisions favouring the home side.

No ref deserves any personal abuse. I know Andy personally and he is a good guy and good ref still learning his trade.
Every ref has poor days and he is no different.
