Not responding to anything in particular, just commenting my own thoughts on some of the more outstanding performances over the weekend imho.
First off - thought Quins did really well to secure an away BP , especially considering their terrible recent form and the team line-ups (yes I acknowledge Leinster were missing players too but I'd argue the ones they were missing weren't as big a deal/effective to their team as the ones Quins were missing).
Not many teams get a try scoring BP away at the Aviva even with their best 23, - plus Quins defended their try line like absolute stallions for most of the game (yes I also acknowledge Leinster made a tonne of errors but still). Fair play to Quins, great effort.
Secondly, Bath vs Munster. Thought it was an utterly dominant statement performance by Bath. Imo they might even win it this year - their squad depth is right up there. They can probably handle anything but the most unlikely obscenely unlucky injury crisis (I mean I know Will Stuarts out but it isn't as if they don't have options in the front row). Not sure many other clubs other than Leinster or Toulouse could do that atm tbf.
Thirdly, Sarries vs Clermont - again, pretty dominant performance by Sarries. Was surprised overall how badly the French teams performed last week overall in fairness. Malins in particular for Sarries atm sems to be playing himself into contention for being looked at by England again (surely? - Separate debate I acknowledge).
Finally - Bordeaux vs Bulls. Whilst I acknowledg Bulls were missing a lot of key players, its still incredibly difficult to go to pretoria and win given their home record over the years. Bordeaux showing no signs of slowing down.
Great opening weekend, looking forward to round 2 beginning this evening. I've already begun drinking.
Thanks for reading.
