I'm sure this type of thread is completely overdone but after researching the English Premiership teams, I still cannot pick a team to follow. It would be great to follow a team in a good city that I could visit, is semi-successful [i despise gloryhunting of any kind though haha], and has a nice stadium. If I could get any recommendations that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you want a team that's likely to win something, Sarries are a fairly safe bet. Plus they have a shortage of fans. Their home town and stadium are both gash.

Otherwise pick a colour. Then pick the team who's home kit closest matches it.

I had the same dilemma earlier and actually posted here and somewhere else looking for an answer. I settled on Gloucester with secondary support for the London Irish.

Gloucester supporters are famous for being very unwelcoming, at least to the away support (as I have experienced firsthand) but quite a good atmosphere really. Gloucester as a city has its good points but as with all places has its dives, the stadium isn't bad but does have the nickname 'Castle Grim'. My main problem with Gloucester despite everything else is that whenever I'm there is it rains, and when it rains in Gloucester it pours!

London Irish are a friendly bunch (but I would think so), but think it's generally accepted that home and away supporters have a good time at the Madjeski. Quite a nice stadium, well equipped, good seats across the ground but a bit too big for the amount of support being the team, and therefore it loses some of the atmosphere (except on special occasions like St Patrick’s Day). You only problem with London Irish was the words 'semi-successful', *sigh* I think the prefix 'un' would have been closer than 'semi'.

Go with Quinns, the play an excellent brand of rugby and I reckon they're a team on the rise. They have a lot of good young talent and a good coach, I think they finished 6th or something this year but I expect them to do a lot better next season.

out of the teams in England, Northampton have the best fans, they sell out most matches with a decent atmosphere, and the fans stayed loyal even when they were crap for a few years

Leicester also have good fans, they always sell out and could probably sell out a bigger stadium

But Leicester fans never smile.

Hmm, I hope we'll do better, but have a sinking feeling we'll be a little worse - haven't really added any strength to the squad

Why support a premiershio side at all. Dreadful competition.

Be a bit smarter and look at where the probper rugby in Europe is being played, Ireland or France.

The Irish provinces are a bit too easy so why not look at the French Top14. Proper rugby, played in proper towns, with proper fans. I'm a huge admirer of Clermont myself. Always challenging, rarely winning but the fans are simply unbelievable. If you are looking for an authentic rugby experience you should be going there.

Beat the ML and AP fans hands down.

For excitement value I would go with Leicester; great uncompromising style and plenty of younger players (Youngs, Tuilagi) to get excited about. Northampton are up there too for attacking flair and excitement. Just avoid Newcastle... supporting them is like having an emotionally abusive partner. Sale look like they could be exciting this season if you want a bit more of a 'wild card' choice.

To do this team by team...

Bath - lovely city, team should be on the rise but I'm not seeing it. You could do worse.
Exeter - Never been but the West Country's pretty nice in general. Good last year, whether they can repeat it this year is a massive question.
Glaws - Good team on the rise, big rugby tradition. I've got a soft spot for Glaws.
Hairyquims - If you want to sit with a bunch of investment bankers (and a few normal people) you'll do well. Good team, obviously London is fantastic.
Leicester - Very succesful and in the Midlands. The first doesn't fit your requirements, and I'm just not a fan of the Midlands.
(not)London (not)Irish - They play in Reading, which isn't a great place but is close to London, are ******* away their potential, and fail to live up to their name and heritage spectecularly. Not recommended.
(not)London Wasps - High Wycombe is out of the way of anywhere and and supposedly not very nice. The team is going to down the tubes. Avoid.
Newcastle - Cracking place to go on the ****. Not really a rugby place. The team is massively on the slide.
Northampton - See Leicester. Like the fans though.
Sale - See Newcastle (just remember to go to Manchester, not Sale, afterwards), except less so.
Saracens - Play in Watford (shithole, but close to London), a lot of their fans come across as lairy assholes, they spend half the season playing **** rugby, think they're South African, and Brendan Ventner wished he was Dr. Evil. He's gone now, but the foulness lingers. I cannot recommend them.
Worcester - Just come up. .... . Eh, you could I guess.

In short - my recommendation would be one of Quins, Bath or Gloucester, or maybe Exeter if they cement their Premiership place.
