Before I get to my questions, hello I'm new to the forum and all that ^^

I was just hoping to get a couple of answers, I play 12-13 for my club at the moment, I know that if I want to become a professional rugby player I would have to get my speed up anyway but recently our club has done a couple of 7s competitions and I really enjoyed it because I get more of the ball and I love the physical side of it and was just asking myself would I have to change my training regime at all if I wanted to go towards 7s ? Do 7s get paid as much as in XV (I would like to be able to make a living from it ) ? All my trainers say I'm excellant at 7s, I try and be like Quade Cooper when it comes to sidesteps and dusautoir / tuilagi when it comes to my defense but all I really need to work on is my speed

My training is everyday 60 burpee starjump combo, 90 press ups , 90 knee to elbow sit-ups then after that 30 25 meter sprints (I need to accelerate faster ) and every second day weight training on top of that

Thank you in advance,

7s recently got central contracts in England (actually employed to play 7s for England, rather than employed by a club and then borrowed by the 7s set up), so you can definitely make a living off of it if you're good enough.

For speed/acceleration improvements make sure you're doing the right kind of gym work - strength work like deadlifts and squats and power work like power cleans, snatches, box squats, box jumps etc.
Plyometrics are also a fantastic way to build up speed - google and/or youtube them, you'll find a ton of info/examples of them - basically jumping/bounding etc. in explosive movements.

Also: Welcome to the forum!
