Do SH ppl watch the 6N ?

@ heineken:
well you're right, club play is a lot more sloppy and careless...at least in the NH. But we don't usually compare the 6N to your club matches man, where d'you get that from ?!

Based on what was said on this thread.

It looks like most comments made here was a comparison between SR and 6N, including me, only Superalex mentioned the Rugby Championship.

I'm not saying the Heineken Cup is of lower stadard than the SR, not at all. I rate them eqully, with the bigger salaries and better pool structure in the Heineken Cup they might even be better than SR. The quality of rugby is different and the conditions play a major role. In the SH most of the games are playing in warm dry comditions, which allows the teams to play an expanded game.

I typically don't Not because Im disinterested. It's just the times are a pain and I don't normally hear about too much and enough to remind me.

I TRY to keep up, but even then...

The stadium was probably a bit more full than usual. Difficult to get 32,000 people to attend games weekly with the current ticket prices. That being said I got offered free tickets and went to a mates 21st instead...

I've often felt attendances can appear small in New Zealand and Australia for Super Rugby why do teams never use smaller stadiums? As in are they available/allowed.

Yeah just watch the Canes/Blues game.

We tend not to get behind these things unless it's the ABs. Not because we're not big fans; just because it's easier to watch on telly or more fun to watch at a bar with mates (and a little bit more comfortable than sitting in the stands).

Several reasons. Firstly in Wellington, there really is only one big outdoor stadium. The logic being it's better to have extra seats avalible than not enough I suppose, and it's not like there are any other sporting events which require the stadiums use any more then the Canes. The sad thing is, if ticket prices were half, chances are people would fork out and actually turn up to the games, and you'd have full stadiums instead of half full stadiums for the same price. It's really just ticket prices which convince the occassional fan that they're better off watching the game on sky, that they've already paid for.

Thanks guys.

This. They're about $50 for Blues tickets (last I kept in touch with it). Sometimes they'll have a special for $30.

Not sure these days though.

I used to watch it, this is the first season Ive not watched in a long time, last year I decided Id had enough and would focus on Super Rugby instead.

Im a kiwi but I lived in Scotland for 6 years and have lived in Canada for the last 2 years. It was easy to get into while I lived in Scotland obviously and when I moved to Canada I would download every game and watch them over the week so the time difference isnt an issue for me.

I love the history and atmosphere, almost every game really seemed like an *event*, you could crank up the TV and really get into it. I also liked that it was only 6 teams, you could watch every game and keep on top of the whole competition and players.

After a while though I realised I loved everything about the 6N other than the actual rugby. Sure it would be exciting but not really the style of exciting Id prefer. Ill steer clear of any NH v SH debate so Ill leave it at that. Lets just say after watching the Highlanders play the Chiefs last weekend Im glad I made the switch to the Super15. Its a shame Scotland have decided to start wining some games the year I decide to stop watching though!

It would also lose a bit of its shine if afterwards the All Blacks would come and grand slam most of the 6N teams. Im not trying to be a jerk, its just how I felt some years. It would be exciting and intense and then NZ would tour and walk all over the teams and it made it all feel a bit hollow. That probably sounds quite provocative but Im not looking for an argument about it. Yes England beat NZ last year well done.

You probably werent looking for a debate about the format but I think the 6N could do with an actual final as well. The competition can sometimes just fizzle out at the end when the winner is already decided. Unless there is a chance for a grand slam of course.

So yeah, I watched it but I can see why most SHers wouldnt, time difference, no connection to any teams and a smug feeling of superiority.

I like the Six Nations. I only really get up to watch the 6am games not the ones on at 3:30 am. I enjoy the rugby. It's not that open or exciting but it is close and intense. I find it interesting to see which players are going well. It also means that when the All Blacks play one of these teams, I know a bit about the players. Most New Zealanders don't follow it and don't watch the games. I think we just don;t know enough about the competition. We don't know about the players and don't get build up throughout the week to excite us. Most New Zealanders probably don't care about South African Super Rugby games either.

Comments such as

Conversely, the Heineken Cup (broken and bent as it is) still kicks the shite out of anything you colonials and convicts can cobble together!

Are only designed to **** people off. Go play that pretentious horse-burger attitude on someone else.

Making dismissive and factually inaccurate all-sweeping comments is neither big nor clever.

2/10 for trolling. Must troll harder.

NOTE: Do you recognise my comments matey? You should, they're yours!!

Perhaps, as an Admin and Mod on this forum, you could set all of us a good example, by practising what you preach!!

^ well as terribly thick a joke as it was :D he was only kidding man...but he's English dude, those comments are bound to drop every once in a while... and that's a FACT !

Most SR games here are on Sky at 7/8 am that is the NZ and Aus ones though, the SA ones of course are on a bit later but all are on Sky (to my knowledge)

Judging by the personally abusive expletive-laden PM I just got from him, I don't think he was joking!!
