Gloucester and England rugby union player Lesley Vainikolo was arrested after allegedly being involved in a street fight in Bath on Saturday.

Vainikolo, 29, was held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with head injuries.

The man was originally thought to be in a critical condition but has since been discharged.

The Tongan-born player has now been released on bail.

A Gloucester Rugby Club spokesman said: "We understand the police investigation is ongoing and have no comment to make at this stage."

The club confirmed that Vainikolo had been arrested and released on bail, but not charged.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman added: "A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with injuries thought to be critical.

"Subsequently it was found they were not as serious as first thought and he was discharged."

The spokesman said there was 'nothing to suggest' the injured man was a rugby player.

Vainikolo has won five England caps, after becoming eligible through his residency in the UK.

BBC Hacks sensationalizing once again. Although so far there's not much evidence to suggest the aggressor is a rugby player either...

Its the "Beautiful game" BBC luvvies wanting to take Rugby down a notch after its made a mockery of football time and time again.

They won't admit it, but the powers that be absolutely abhor games like Cricket and Rugby as they epitomise everything they hate about the "other" British society that sits outside of their Islington ivory towers. And if a light scrap like this happens, they'd be only too happy to trump it up as a "massive brawl".

Police have also released a photo of a Welsh Man Flee the scene....

If anyone sees this man please inform Bath police

Also do not forget about the bodyguard/accomplice. Reports indicate he's approximately 6 feet tall and speaks with a Northampton accent. He is an extremely dangerous individual, capable of intimidating Welshman twice his size, and should not be approached. A police photofit is as follows;

Police are also very interested in interviewing another male, Welshman currently studying his A-Levels and a notorious member of the Llanelli rugby casual outfit..

A recent photo of him posing with Paul Gadd's brother in law has been provided:

Shame, I was looking forward to seeing that picture of me with Paul Gadd's (who the...?) brother-in-law. :(

No, because "You're a bandwith stealing weasel who promises not to steal graphics off another site again". ^_^
