England wingers

I'd love to see Wade given a proper shot in the test side. As people have already said, his defense is no worse than Ashton's - in fact his level of bravery and willingness to tackle blokes much bigger than him seems far higher.

Obviously his height is always going to give a little cause for concern on the high ball, but Wade creates space and tries for himself, something which very few/no other wingers in England currently have the ability to do. He is a natural finisher and I think his attacking brilliance has to outweigh any defensive concerns.

A number of commentators have suggested England need more experienced guys interspersed amongst the infants. With that in mind, I still think it would be possible to bring James Simpson-Daniel (A.k.a James Lysergic acid diethylamide) onto one wing, and a raw recruit on the other one - I'd go with Either Wade or May.

I definitely don't buy the idea that the JSD boat has left - if we're picking on form and we need more experience, why not?

Wade's defense is considerably better than Ashton's.
Wade has made 52 and missed 7.
Ashton has made 22 and missed 5.
That's in the premiership btw.
I think his ability under the high ball is what worries Lancaster?

Re: Eastmond

I know Lancaster has said in the past that he sees him as a FB long term. I don't know whether having seen him play at 12 for Bath would have changed his thinking slightly.
His his distribution coupled with his ability to beat defenders has worked incredibly well in that position. His defense is good too, I don't know how he'd handle someone like Jaime Roberts for 80 minutes, but it's not weak by any means.
The trouble is that, playing at Bath, he is not going to get any opportunity to play FB because Abendanon is part of the furniture there.
If he can find a way to get some experience playing at 15, and gain the positional and kicking knowledge required then I would agree that it would be hard to think of someone more suited to the 23 shirt.

Wade has been brilliant under the high ball this season, he's really made it a strong part of his game. His vision and hand eye coordination is brilliant. Obviously he's going to have a tough time of him against a taller back who's also jumping for the ball, but what can you do.

Well something he can do, which S williams did was really work in the gym on his leg stregth so he can jump higher, i read an interview that said williams could squat 3 times his body weight. Thats part of why he wasn't a problem in defence. I'm sure that will be part of Wades training to work on his jumping ability which will negate any taller wings who don't work on jumping as much.

Yeah that's what I meant, contesting for high ball, not just catching it. I haven't noticed it being a big issue though.
Interestingly we could see Yarde and Wade paired in an England shirt again after they did so in the U20's.

Wade struggled nwith the high ball on saturday, positioning and contesting for it. We did a great job at targeting his side though. Maybe May will get a sniff before Wade does.

Johnny May deserves a call up. Been in great form recently and like Wade he gives the attacking flair that we've been lacking recently with Ashton and Brown, I can't see him missing out in the next squad.

Maybe even Sharples could fight his way back in the squad if he picks up his form before the next squad.

Great first post. Welcome to the site! :D

Son Gloucester fans who is actually better...or who would rather have in your england team. Sharples or May?

Easily May on current form. Sharples has been injured a lot this season and when he has played his impact on the game has been pretty negligible I don't really consider him in the battle for an England spot currently. I think its May v Wade.

Yep, definitely May atm. He seems to receive and use the ball a lot more. For example, at its most exaggerated, against Bath, Sharples touched the ball once, whereas May scored 2 tries, made 3 clean breaks and more than 10 runs. I think Sharples has a future, but it seems as if his confidence has been knocked - he hasn't seemed the same since being called up to England.

Tom Biggs would make an ideal England left-winger. A massive fan favourite at Bath he can really load the pressure on opposition full-backs. He is such a strong runner and usually is caught isolated without support at Bath (one problem with Baths current setup)
There are so many great wingers being talked about for England spaces, so many Saxons players who I can see excelling in the EPS. This is an exciting couple of years for England Rugby, but we need to get our own back against Wales!!

11. Christian Wade 14. Mike Brown 15. Alex Goode / Ben Foden (if he gets his form back)

Sorted. It's the kind of back three which has been working well for Australia / New Zealand lately and you have to say the results are pretty good. i.e, an attacking wing, a defensive fullback/winger and an attacking fullback

Brown is just so much better at fullback than wing. I'd have Biggs involved for sure, I really hope he gets a chance this summer.
Would like to see Foden back too.

11. May/Biggs
14. Wade
15. Foden/Brown

23. Brown/Foden

Goode in the Saxons to call up in case of injury.

Just because the All-Blacks have found success with such a combination, doesn't mean you can chuck any old players in to a team and expect a similar combo to work in any side. Goode is another but an attacking full-back anyway. Great awareness and positioning and safe as you want under uncontested high ball with a big boot, but lacks back-three pace and natural attacking instincts.

I'd rather give Brown a go at 15 and put Jonny May in at 11 instead. He's played 15 for Gloucester and is in great form. Would like to see Elliot Daly groomed for the full-back slot though and given a shot there.
