The number of a squad should be increased from 23 to 26, and substitutions should be unlimited (except players who received red card, or players in sinbin).
If substitutions are unlimited, it can be easily imagined the appearance of place-kick specialists. That would be fascinating.

Overall this one isn't as bad as the others but I wouldn't want to have unlimited subs because the game would just become like NFL a team/certain players for attack and separate for defense, reducing the skills of players all round.

Woohoo!!

Another shitty thread by Sige!!

For he's a jolly good fellow!!

I'mj ust going to type **** here, because that is exactly what these threads of his are, and seeing that they amuse some people, I know nothing will happen.

Sige, I will tell you again, you will love watching AFL football. The have a bigger, field, more players and unlimited interchange!

Is there any free online broadcasting?
My college friend was a player of Japan's student team, and travelled to Australia. Japan's student team were thrashed by an Australian college team (not national student team, but a single college team).
The one thing I cannot understand in Australian Football is that the ball entered in the centre after touching pole is not goal (6 points) but behind (1 point).

I actually agree that the number of replacements should be increased. I also agree with rolling substitutions. What I disagree with is increasing squad sizes to 26 and unlimited subs.

I'd like to see 24 man squads - 2 replacement props, a hooker, a second row, a backrow, scrumhalf, flyhalf, centre and back three player on the bench. Instead of unlimited subs, I'd implement a system closer to rugby league with, say 12 substitutions permitted. Players are killing themselves at the highest level by being forced to play while carrying injuries or through both mental and physical fatigue. If a player could take a 10 minute breather during a game which helps him perform better in the last 20 minutes, everyone benefits.

Disagreed. In the professional game, defences have in general normally ruled over attack. The last thing we need is to remove element of fatigue late in a game, when tired defenders can lead to the game opening up a little.

Also with rolling subs, NFL style special teams could come into play. For example if a side is protecting a lead late in a game, you could bring on a team of Dan Lydiate's and Thierry Dusautoir's in place of Chris Ashton's or Ronan O'Gara's. Making it even harder for attack to beat defence.

on the other hand, more subs mean more disorganization. I base this on no statistical evidence whatsoever, but I'd imagine that a considerable number of scores are made in the few minutes following a couple of substitutions.

I take your point Psychic Duck but disagree for different reasons to what would normally be expected.

I'm thinking from a safety point of view. Players are putting their bodies through too much. Take Luke Marshall for example who has just suffered his third concussion in the three games. While a 10 minute breather won't prevent concussion, it will give players some leeway to rest up and only face car crash collisions for 70 minutes instead of 80!

If defenses are on top, that's the fault of poor attack coaching. New Zealand don't seem to have a problem scoring tries.

What's to stop Munster for example subbing Ronan O'Gara off for a backrow with minutes to go under the existing rules?

Rolling subs are a bad idea. Having specialist kickers isn't something I want to see. Limiting the number of interchange players makes eliminates this. Rugby League has done so successfully.

Player welfare is a huge issue and everything should be done to help protect them while maintaining the physical element in the sport.

What I don't like about rolling subs is that it allows players to get bigger as they don't have to be as fit. Which to me would also result in more injuries.

If I was a millionaire, I would buy a club and hire Thierry Dusautoir and Ronan O'Gara, just to make that substitution and see the opposing #10 ******** his pants.
