Gareth Thomas retires

Weird. Was looking forward to seeing him in the Four Nations.

Posted about this in the Welsh RL Squad thread.

Family issues apparently. He missed the game against Ireland for family reasons. So it must be quite serious.

Was he any good? Never saw him play League?

Thought he would at least handle the defensive aspects really well at center (which I presume was where he was playing) and was a handy distributor for Wales Rugby Union.

He was an ok player. Was hardly going to set the world alight in RL.

Certainly not at 37. If he made the transition younger, I'm sure he would have done fairly well. He's really just a high profile player to get interest up for league in Wales.

Who is gonna play centre for us now? Don't know why he retired now, must be serious. Great servant for Welsh rugby though, wish him all the best.

Was virtually knocked out the first time he touched the ball for Crusaders on debut. Literally the first time he touched the ball. 20 seconds into the game.

Never really moved on from there.

Didn't he score a try that game?

Oops, thought he got debut try for both, sorry bout that. But he did stay on for 30 minutes.
