Well, if that douchebag O'Neil gets his way the Brumbies could be sharing their home games with Melbourne in the future.

Personally, I believe Melbourne should get their own team down the line.

Anyways, until then you should definately support the Brumbies :)

hah never... i also know an aussie guy who wore a "i love all blacks" fake tattoo.. however there was a good reason and it was female, and from new zealand. :)
[/b]
I have a mate who suspicially seems to go for the rivals of my team just to be a dick. He goes for the All Blacks only when they beat the Wallabies so he can give me **** about it, (he is about 1/32's Kiwi although he claims his ancestor was one of the main blokes at the treaty of Waitangi) goes for Man U because I go for Liverpool (although he claims he goes for them simply because he likes C.Ronaldo) and despite the fact he is Australian refuses to go for Australia in everything except in football....so your not as bad as him. :P

I support the All Blacks...because that is my country.

However at a deeper level I admire other teams that are not from NZ....because essentially I admire rugby played with excellence. Which is something I suspect every rugby supporter does wherever they are from.

I know there are a lot of people who admore the All Blacks when they play sublime rugby who do not come from NZ..even if they come from the countries that are the big rivals of the All Blacks.

Now that Deans has gone to Australia I will actually take a vivid interest in them. Not because I am an Australian fan. Not because I am anti-All Blacks. My inter4 est in the Wallabies is purely because I suspect they may actually play sublime rugby in the next two year...they have Deans the super coach...they have better players than the Crusaders have...they have a "team" work ethic as a nation which is what Deans is very strong on as his main point which flies in the face of the traditional gloryish NZ rugby.

Therefore even though I support the All Blacks because they are my country I may switch my admiration to the Wallabies if they start slaughtering top tier other teams and play sublime rugby. This is because ultimately I admire fine rugby in itself above my country.

Teams I have admired in the past that are not from NZ are.

2000, 2001, 2004 Brumbies. They played beautiful rugby...who could stop them when they got on a roll.

2003 England. Amazing team who understood what it was like to be a "team" more than anything.

1993, 1994 Queensland. Really understood the running game so well.

1993 Natal. A team that had come of age very quickly in the new era.

1982, 1991 Wallabies. Too good in there days for everyone else and did what it took to win the close ones.

When the All Blacks or any NZ team lost to these teams I did not get too depressed because I knew that these other teams were simply better and had taken that extra step to play sublime rugby. If NZ is to lose then it should be to teams that play in the sublime realm.

I will support the AB's...but I will also be happy if the Wallabies win...because I know that Deans is almost the perfect coach...and that the Wallabies will indeed be playing amazing rugby under him...so in a sense I will be happy with rugby winnning on the day (what a cliche lol!)

Just a question Gay Guy, if you had the power to decide who would be our coach would you pick Graham Henry or Deans who would you pick?

I would get Robbie and Graham together and say this in privacy.

"Ok Graham...we don't think you are good enough to take this team to the 2011 RWC. We think Robbie is. However we think you still have a few things left to teach the boys. So what we are gonna do is this. Graham you take the AB's for 2008 and 2009 and finish off all your theoretical stuff you want to do with them. Then in 2010 and 2011 Robbie you take over and get them ready for the RWC. Until then Robbie we want you to gain experience at international level so you go over and coach the Wallabies for 2008 and 2009. Suss them all out and note their strengths and weaknesses. Use them as your guinea pigs for anything you want to experiment with. Save any revelations you get during this time for when you take over the AB's in 2010. When you get the AB's in 2010 do your usual great stuff as well as anything you may have learnt from using the giant rats as your guinea pig team during your time over there. I want the both of you guys to work together communicating on what you guys are doing to make the handover easier. Graham after you hand over I want you to stay on as an advisor under Deans....very much like how you did this with the Blues in 2003. This way you will be a part of the winning team in 2011 and all the bad memories of 2007 will be lost as the two of you will be exalted as the winners and heroes. We must be absolutely secretive on what we are doing. Do not share your tactics before each test between the two of you....this way it will look genuine...so play to win. However make sure after the last 2009 test between NZ and AUS that you both share everything that you have been holding back"

Supporting a franchise from another country for no real good reason is equivilent to treason, and yes, I know I support foreign teams over the Tahs, but that's for my own reasons. You should probably bow out of this conversation because of your own allegiances, as for not supporting the Italian team because they aren't good=glory hunger :P

Now come and support the Force as your main team and you can criticise Carlos, who I suspect is having a MAJOR fish and everyone is biting...quite funny actually. :P

[/b]
Hang on! Now that's just blatant hypocrasy BLR... You justifying your support of foreign teams because you have "reasons" doesn't entitle you to make comments on this topic any more than IA. Remember, he has reasons too. He's from a province that has no team and doesn't like any of the others, and since both the ACT and WA got teams ahead of Melbourne, combined with the fact that Victorians generally don't like supporting NSW or Qld, why should he support another Aussie province? Just because he doesn't share the passionate hate for the waratahs that you and fushi harbor doesn't make it any less valid. ;)

I knew you'd be the first one to pick up on it. :P

You see, I'm not really as passionate as Fushi in my Tah hate, it's just the 'in thing' at the moment...

I think supporting a province from your own country is important however, I mean, at least I support a province from my own country, and I sorta supported a Australian province before the Force as well....

<div class='quotemain'> To be fair InsaneAsylum, you are from Melbourne going for a Kiwi provincial team. ;) [/b]

WHOA NELLY

it's a franchise.... not a country :D

the chiefs are just like another krispy kreme outlet... even though you are in a different state, the donuts are still the same

i was born in australia and have lived in australia all my life... hence, go the wallabies

my parents are italian... i don't follow the italian team and that's mainly because they're **** :P

WOG!!!!!!

jk lol. But fair enough supporting a non Aussie franchise is odd I guess you have your reasons being from Melbourne, BUT I think you actually supporting and watching rugby alone when you come from Melbourne is pretty good alone.

I started this thread. I got my reasons for wanting Aussie and not wanting the ABs to do well.

However, I gotta give 200% credit to Gay Guy for the most well reasoned and sensible comments in this thread (apart from mine that is).- see below

Well done Gay Guy.

Excellent post.

I feel the same way when I witness teams playing beautiful rugby.

Despite them being our arch rivals for many years I'll always have great respect for the Crusaders.

During the World Cup I think I barracked for Argentina and Fiji as hard as I did for the Wallabies.

Despite the fact that I had a grudge against them in the past (mainly due to De Wet Barry's dirty play) I was really impressed with the Stormers this year. They played wonderful attacking rugby, and I really wanted to see them in the finals.

I was also enjoying the fact that Ireland (generally who I support after the Wallabies due to my heritage) was starting to peak leading up to the World Cup... and then they unfortunately crashed... :wall:

I support Ireland as well because my parents are Irish. They choke in every sport I swear (except cricket, make the knockout stages in the CW07 but fail to make pass the groud stages in the rugby in the same year..)

Actually it got really frustrating seeing Ireland fail and watch England make the final when the Irish team was 10x better..
