Heineken Champions Cup - Rd 3

"Sale one of the few teams in recent years to beat Clermont at home"
" As recently as 2008" … bruh that's like 14 years ago only Wigglesworth is still playing

Basically just slid the ball forward along the ground there for that try :D

Surely that's a penalty?
Didn't try and catch it, just slapped it forward hoping to regather further down

Is it only in the prem that blocking players getting to the ball is pinged, Cle been doing it all game don't recall seeing it given once.

Frustrating, feels like there were 5 points available there. Some silly errors, and a few calls missed/going against us. Sale still missing the clinical finishing needed.

Back of the envelope maths:

Qualified for CC knockouts:
Racing, Ulster, La Rochelle, Harlequins, Leicester, Munster, Bristol

Qualified if they get at least a losing bonus point:
Leinster, Exeter, Bordeaux, Connacht

Qualified with a draw, or two bonus points:
Toulouse

Qualified if they win:
Sale, Clermont, Wasps

Qualified if they win and outscore the other team:
Glasgow, Montpellier

Have to win and have 1-2 other results go their way:
BAth, Northampton, Castres, Scarlets, Stade, Cardiff

Have to have a bonus point win and have 4 other results go their way, and even then might go out on points difference:
Ospreys

Oof that makes Ulster v Clermont at Ravenhill even more tasty

How do home draws for the KOs work under this format? Trying to figure out what the team with the best points diff in the tournament despite been given a 28 point handicap need to do to Leinstertain me in the flesh.

It's double header but think the higher place team (Top 4) get their home game in the 2nd leg

Last 16 - Group A seed 1 vs Group B seed 8. Home & Away.
Last 8, Top Seed has Home Venue Advantage
Last 4 Top Seed has Home Country advantage.

So Ideally you want a top 2 seeding to have best route.

So at the moment you would have:

Racing 92 vs Wasps
Ulster vs Toulouse
La Rochelle vs Connacht
Leinster vs Bordeaux
Harlequins vs Glasgow
Leicester vs Clermont
Munster vs Sale
Bristol vs Exeter

Hmm...going to be honest, considering currently second that's not a great draw for Leicester. Definitely easier games to be had. Having said that Sale nearly beat Clermont, so how good can they really be?
