because, new zealand rugby team is made up of only one country unlike irelands

its also a war dance, not an athem, so you cant compare it to the soldiers song

i think ireland should only sing irelands call even at home[/b]
Ah yes but each is only representitive of a portion of the nations population. The Ulster boys don't seem to mind it being sung either, at least I haven't heard any major complaints recently

Best of luck with that one

Would probably be good to point out its not the Kiwi's in general, or anyone posting on this board, just a few commentators that thought it wasnt on.

yes to be honest i dont have a problem with it being sung in the south, but only there

i listening to the commontaters, they are the disgrace

it gives new zealand a mental advanatage if you just stand an watch

i totally agree wit hte irish for standing up to it

if they really wanted to **** them off, they shouldnt have watched at all

I think they should sing the chorus from Lady GaGa's Poker Face. And do a bit of a dance.

The commentator I heard, I believe Sky Sports (I actually watch it on Setanta US, which re-broadcasts sky matches) was a dick the whole opening 20 minutes about how "discraceful" it was. It was awesome and really got both sides fired up, not just one side. No problem with them marching up, it's something that's been done by Irish teams in the past. Also, look at last years RLWC Final between Aus. and NZ where they were face to face, it was epic and intense. Sadly the Irish boys lost in the end, but that was a great match to watch, and the Haka showdown is what set the pace.

In my opinion, the haka or any of the pacific war dances should be opposed, i don't think it really gives an edge to the team doing it, but it is intimidating that you have to stand there and watch it.. because it's only fair that the other team has a chance to psyche themselves as well by replying. It is correct to acknowledge the haka in the way Ireland did.

A war dance is exactly what it means.. it lays down a challenge to the opponent. If you don't man up, it is an insult. It makes it 100% better if the other team slowly shuffles up to them.. it amplifies the haka and it's meaning. The point of doing it is to get the other team to raise their fortitude and then defeat them, which would make the victory sweeter in other words, to make a song and dance about.

Put it this way, there would be no point if the AB's played Cambodia 2nd XV and did the haka. With all the effort in the world it'd be over in the first 15 minutes.

As long as it does not turn into violence, and that they only get within 5 metres of each other and don't make any major provocative insults (like petty gesturing or mimicking) then all is good.

You can watch the whole match here - http://www.irb.com/jwc/video/index.html

The commentators reactions are shameful  Walking up to the haka is "verging on Insulting".[/b]

I'd like to take this opportunity to distance NZ from those commentators. The one that was going on about it the most was English, and the other guy was a Tongan international.

Im Maori myself and i dont see a problem with what the Irish lads did.
