LV=Cup 2012/13

Hah, we've got our scrum half (until the Ospreys try to sign another one of ours).
Evans must be the best Welsh scrumhalf ATM.

Yeah, I'd say so. Been very impressed with him this season. Lloyd Williams has probably put in the best performance, last week against Sale though, but he's been below par this season in general. The only other options are the Scarlets bunch. Easterby really needs to decide his pecking order there though and give someone a run of games. It's all well and good having competition, but the Scarlets start a different scrum half every single game, usually with a different one on the bench each time as well. I don't think that's doing any of them any good, because it's not instilling confidence in any of them.

I think the same can be said for their wingers. Fenby was the first choice at the beginning of the season, and to be fair was going quite well. All of a sudden, he seems to be getting little game time of late, with Kristian Phillips getting the nod. I don't think Phillips has been doing any better, so why the change, or has Fenby been injured?

Fullback Jamie Murphy was pretty decent. Good boot, why did we keep kicking to him?
Former Crusaders RL player, lists favourite song as Thunder Road so I've got time for the lad ;)

Turks don't know what to do, they think that rotating backrow, halfbacks, and back three will fix their problems.

Blues team for today:

Cardiff Blues: Jason Tovey; Owen Williams, Gavin Evans (capt), Dafydd Hewitt; Ceri Sweeney, Lewis Jones; Sam Hobbs, Kristian Dacey, Benoit Bourrust, Michael Paterson, Macauley Cook, Luke Hamilton, Robin Copeland, Rory Watts-Jones.
Replacements: Rhys Williams, Nathan Trevett, Taufa'ao Filise, Cory Hill, Thomas Young, Alex Walker, Gareth Davies, Tom Williams.

I thought teams used the LV= cup to bring through youngsters? Why the midfield of Sweeney, Hewitt and Gavin Evans then? Still no f**king game time for Cory Allen, and Owen Williams moved back to the wing. One of Hewitt or Evans will probably have a half decent game against a weakened Sarries team and start every game for the rest of the season. Why not give Tovey a go at 10 as well?

The pack is a little better though. Great to see Paterson back. I also liked the look of Watts-Jones before getting injured, so will be good to see how he get's along.

Robin is a boss.

Sam Tuitupou's big hit on Gareth Maule, who was given a horrible hospital pass by somebody (not sure who?).

Rhys Patchell has been named to play for the Blues against London Irish, instead of playing for the u20s against the Irish u20s. Interesting call.

Looks like we came to life in the last quarter, 33 unanswered points to win 42 points to 14 against the other Not Nots. 27 points for Steffan Jones, who set a club record with his display off the tee. Tries for current Wales U20 squad members Hallam Amos and Ieuan Jones, and one for sevens international Jevon Groves. Gavin Henson made a return to London Welsh, after a three month injury layoff.

Incredible scenes during the Scarlets vs Leicester match. The Scarlets scrum absolutely pulverised the Leicester scrum. I never thought I would be able to say that. Granted, Leicester were dominant with Stankovich and Mulipola on the pitch in the first half, and their replacements Balmain (sin binned) and Bower were probably like fourth choice but they were still demolished by Rhodri Jones and Deacon Manu. Who have normally been struggling themselves this season, especially Manu who seems to have declined these days (not that he was that great in the first place).

La la laaaaaaa home semi-final!

Highlights on ITV at 23:15, can't wait!

Seems that the Sale maul was on great form. Tommy Taylor also scored a pretty good try. But Wasps were hard done by at the end and probably should have been awarded a penalty try for their scrum.

I've seen Wasps fans say that, but at the same time heard that Wasps were only awarded two penalties, and neither were Sale stopping a try (i.e. they didn't collapse as the scrum was going over the line, but collapsed right on the hit).

Don't know where our maul has come from - we used to be terrible at it, but we've got a few tries (and a couple penalty tries) from it in the past month or two.

Remember that English LV Cup winners qualify for Heineken Cup. So Sale could get relegated and play in the Heineken Cup next season. Once that nearly happened when Leeds won was then the Powergen Cup a few years back, but then they just about survived from relegation.

Here is the semi final lineup -

Harlequins vs Bath - March 9
Sale vs Saracens - March 10

I thought the HEC didn't allow that.
Can't remember where I read it, but I thought they clarified that the win wouldn't put them in the HEC if they were relegated.

I remember something like that. I can see both sides of the argument but its a slap in the face to not reward them for winning just 'cos the side got relegated.

Harlequins James Johnston got shunted back by young Ospreys rookie Marc Thomas. Perhaps it really is Kohn that makes the Quins scrum look good.

If he was a Turk I'd fully expect there to be calls for him to bench it against Italy.

Craig Mitchell, by the way, good prop. Can we get him in Gwent? Maybe Geth as well... We'd slim him right down!

Harlequins looking pretty good money for their lead so far...
Wallace looks like a real player. Hopefully we'll get to see a bit more of him for England in the Summer. Dickson and T. Williams have looked pretty sharp for Quins as well.
