ok well i got the idea for this thread last week. we were out in our senior championship against the thrid strongest team in wicklow. if we won we would guarentee ourselves a place in the semi final but in the last minute we conceded a goal(3 points) and lost the game 1-15 to 2-14. so was just wondering whats your worst moment in sport

Wales losing to Fiji in the World Cup pool stage... Depressing ****, that.
Oh, and the Llanelli v Leicester Heineken Cup semi-final I travelled 100 miles to see. Getting completely stuffed wasn't the way I wanted that match to go... ... :(

Losing to the French in the 1999 Rugby World Cup because I woke up about 4am in the morning just to watch it and we had Jonah, Umaga, Cullen etc and still got a thrashing and just to add to it I still had to go to flippin school and hand in my non existent assignment :ranting: :ranting:

I can imagine if I was kiwi, the mose gut wrenching moment would have been when I realised the pass in the Quarter-Final wasn't forward, and the French were playing on. You tend to pass it off as face value that something so blatant would be picked up, but when it's not it tears you up haha.

From an Aussie perspective - RWC Final, Australia V England 2003. (How long was it before someone said that? :P )

The All Blacks losing in the semi-final to the French and Wayne Barnes[/b]

Second that and the TNC game where NZ lost to AUS, they didn't broadcast it in my pub so had to drive 1 hour, my mate told me the wrong hour, had to wait 1 extra hour and they lost

Larkham with his drop-goal in the 99 world cup. Then probably when Earl Rose kicked the ball out to spite the Stormers in this year's Super14. That one hit me pretty hard. I was agro for a week!

France loosing to the English in RWC 2003 after steamrolling the Irish and in 2007 after defeating the AB's. I can handle loosing to them in 6N but at the RWC...I almost cried (i'm 26), and the worse is that for 2007 I knew it from the start. First after the AB's game watching the players it was like they had won the cup, and then when Bernie the Mad said he'd keep the same line-up, I knew we were doomed.

Also loosing to Italia in the Poofball final infuriated me quite a bit.

Yeah I know what you mean, I remember the game vs Argentina, not that keen on Argentina but the French really fought well.
Altho tbh I was also reliefed after they had beaten the AB's.

Four putting the last from 10 feet when a one putt would have seen me break par for the first time.

I don't care about pool games... :bleh!:

Serious stuff begins at the quarter final.

we are talking about football, in which case France never got out of their group. So yes teeny wee Scotland did the double over the world cup runners up, believe me its about the only sporting highlight in 2007. Thank god for Andy Murray and Chris Hoy.

Losing to Germany Euro 1996
Losing to Argentina WC 1998
Losing to Portugal Euro 2004
Losing to Portugal WC 2006

I cried all of those times... not qualifying for Euro 2008 was embarassing as well.

Otherwise

Losing to Wales 6N 1999
Losing to Scotland 6N 2000
Losing to Ireland Foot & Mouth 2001 (Rectified by a spanking in Dublin for a GS in 2002; and of course the WC)

Wales winning the Grand Slam 2005 (Rectified by being there for a spanking @ Twickenham in 2006; finished off by Fiji at the last WC)
Wales winning the Grand Slam 2008 (This needs adressing.)

Losing to Munster in the HC semi final.

I seem to remember the Commonwealth games 100m final in 2002 thinking Chambers and co would be in the medals, and watching them all pull up injured.

I think probably realising that Portugal weren't going to continue any further in RWC 2007 and seeing their reactions :(

Watching Nigel Mansell's tyre explode in 1987 as a kid.

Watching the yanks cheat, hoot and holler their way to victory over Europe in the 1999 Ryder Cup...

In terms of rugby it would have to be Lynagh's last gasp try in 91. O'Gara's penalty miss in the 2000 final. Getting steam rollered by Munster in the semi final 2 years ago.

As for other sports, Leonard's 45 footer against Olazabal was pretty hard to take although it was probably made worse by the antics that followed.

Kilkenny losing the 91 final against Tip was particularly hard to take especially after being bannished from my Granny's house for having the gall to cheer for the county where my mam was born as opposed to the county where my great-granny was born.

Dublin missing out in 2002 against Armagh was especially tough moreso with the prospect of a final against Kerry.

Roy Keane getting sent home made me physically sick, especially given the mediocre nature of the tournament that followed.

I support the All Blacks...so I have many gut wrenching moments.

1991 losing RWC semi to Australia.
With ten minutes to go NZ knew they were a beaten team. This was a totally new experience of "realising" the nightmare of being knocked out was a reality. Keith Quin was commetating the game and they were saying post mortem comments like "An end of an era" well before the game was over. Though alot of Kiwis sensed that we had missed our chance at the world cup when Michael Lynagh scored against Ireland in the last minute of the quater final. I was at my Dads house and my Dad and Uncle were silent.

1995 losing RWC final to South Africa.
In the first half the AB's did the scissors move bringing Lomu infield from the blindside wing. Lomu gets through and only has Andrews to beat. He plows into him and knocks him over yet still Andrews holds on to Lomus feet and makes the tackle. At that moment I knew it was not going to be our day. The rest of the game was like watching fate unfold. I was at my friends house and we were cursing everything that was happening at every moment.

1999 losing RWC semifinal to France.
At halftime the game looked to be ours. With 15 minutes to go that familiar realisation that we were about to get knocked out returned. It was hard to watch our boys getting weaker and weaker as the game went on while the French looked like they were being empowered by the gods. Everytime the French scored it was almost like it wasn't really happening....that the AB's would get back into the lead and all would be well. When the lead was too big it still didn't sink in. I was watching the game at a hostel and everyone was just shaking their heads.

2003 losing RWC semifinal to Australia.
When the game started and Australia did not kick the ball at all but held on to it.....I sensed that this was going to be one of those days. It was. NZ had no answers to the gameplan that the Aussies employed that day. I was watching at my Dads house but with 5 minutes I gave up and got in the car to drive to my house which was 5 minutes away. I would down the window hoping desperately to hear loud applause from the houses that I was driving past. There weren't any. When I entered my street (the time was 1am) it was dead quiet and people were opening their front doors to have a smoke on the cool night air. I knew what that meant. I got out of my car and made the slow walk towards my front door hoping with the tiniest bit of hope that when my wife opened the door she would beam me a smile and say what miracle happened in the dying stages of the game. I looked at my wife and she didn't say a word.

2007 losing RWC quarterfinal to France.
When MacAlister scored I believed we had this game in the bag. When MacAlister got sent off I sensed that fate was about to move yet again. France score a try and MacDonald misses an easy tackle....a forward pass is not picked up...France score....NZ plug away and France slow or kill the ball and stand offside without being penalised. All this pointed to NZ yet again being eliminated. However it was the sight of Carters face on the sideline which gave the biggest indication that yet again NZ was wasting their time fighting their fate.

WRC 2007: SA vs Fiji; SA started really well but Fiji came back, altho they didn't have enough time
WRC 2007: NZ France: No explenation needed

Soccer: UEFA cup final ( I think) Olympique Marseille - Sevilla: Bathez was send off SEvilla scored, bye bye Marseille.

NBA: Not even going to start on this one, the list is endless ;)
