Nadolo receives racist tweets

to be honest i didn't think anyone would think off criticising nadolo unless if there behind a screen posting racist things. but completely disgraceful, really hopes this doesn't happen again

It sucks, but it's pretty weird that he'd gives those cretins the time of day...

The internet is full of foul people trying to unleash their bile to get a rise, seems it would be more effective to block and pay no attention to them, than it is to #hurtful. Most people clearly like the guy.

That article says nothing about him receiving racist tweets. He was insulted in person by a drunken fan and mentioned the incident in a tweet. So the guy who said it sounds like a drunk and a racist ass but he wasn't a "keyboard warrior" and wasn't hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. On the contrary Nadolo has received many tweets in his favour in response.

very unpleasant.

Hopefully the police will pull the IP and pay the little oik a visit.

Umm, I hope not.

Hopefully the person's contact details are published and everyone who knows this person would very quickly wish they didn't. I don't think saying something, no matter how derogatory, should be an offence. Society as a whole should be left to make a judgement on someone's character.

As it is, I think it is slightly strange to publish this. There are over 4 million people in New Zealand and some of them are going to be racist. The people who are not racist just need to make it very clear that they don't agree with those views when they them. It is good to see Nadolo getting a lot of support.

*facepalm*

I think the police cautioning or charging someone is far preferable to a bit of social justice with someones name posted on the internet, there is only one way those things end.

Regardless if someone is posting racist comments on social media (and i know he's not, but at the the time that's how it was portrayed) then they are inciting racial hatred. Certainly in the UK it's a chargable offence.

And anyone should be allowed to say anything they want no matter how derogatory? really?

I just think it opens up doors and certainly in SA the police should be given as little responsibility as possible. I mean where do you draw the line? Scope creep is a thing. I wouldn't even post his name on the internet. Tell him he is being a dick. Later on someone else will tell him he is being a dick. At some stage he will realize he was being a dick all along and hopefully change.

If someone wants to go around and be a dick, let him IMO. Tell him what you think of him respectfully and then leave. If it takes 1000 people telling him off and shutting him off, so be it but bringing in policing for something like this just closes channels and actually makes it more difficult for the guy to change his perspective, apologize and for everyone to just move on.

Lol, yeah totally jumped the gun. I quickly scampered through it. I took my comments to go with the opening post of this thread off :) sorry racist keyboard warrior.

Well its a different story now isnt it. Person was drunk so it's kind of ok for him to be racist? its a tricky one.

Nadolo is not chubby, he's just stocky. Mesomorph with a capital M. The drunken must've definitely been drunk (and/or has never been beaten up) to say that to Nadolo.

Racism shouldnt even have an ounce of thought in our minds. Its the most stupidest hate ever and yes the world has some stupid people in it but they shouldnt be heard with their no sense, 1 + 1 = 7 views, because you listen to that stuff too long you become stupid as well.

Just stupid.

Theres such a thing as karma. If he is going around calling people names then he is making life very difficult for himself.

The police should be kept out of it. Its name calling. The man didn't threaten Nadolo and might not even be a racist, just a *****ed off fan with a big mouth.

I can't agree with this at all.

No one should have to be abused - especially in that manner, by doing nothing and taking no action we condone what has been said and perpetuate the myth that this thing is ok when it's clearly not.

1 person saying the N word leads to 2 people saying it, which leads 3, which leads to institutional racism.

Yep.

I think the police getting involved would be a strange double standard. Nadolo is a public figure, therefore the police should act differently?

People who post horrible things on the internet either out of hatred or out of an attempt to get a rise, are immature and pathetic.

I would have thought the police would act the same no matter who it is, if it's reported.

This discussion has taken a bit of a swerve as he's not said it on Twitter, but in person, but the point remains someone posting hateful comments online is a lot more than just pathetic, we forget how far a reach the internet has.

We've had a lot of this in the UK over the last few years and the authorities have taken it quite seriously.

Well I think this is blown out of proportion, personally. Actual racism is stupid and unfair, and that remark is just lower than stupid...but the guy may not even really be a racist, just some drunk idiot, and what is this world coming to when Nadolo, a Super Rugby star, responds to a tweet from some probably suburb low-life piece of crap nobody ?? - with such words as "hurtful" and a lamenting tone, "after all I've done for this club" ?

The sheep-people have always bashed celebs and pro athletes, it's just that before it was only verbal and fugitive, hot air, now it's tainted solid in permanent virtual ink online for everybody to read, and the vicinity with the targeted celeb has never been this great. I understand it hurts but guys, hey, you're pro athletes, you're stars now. The herd mentality and disgusting mediocrity of the common people sure ain't new things, they're prehistoric; and you know it's always, always, always going to be there, one of the few certainties in this world. So you've got no choice but to shut it off somehow, it's part of being famous today. It doesn't matter if the messages are racist, sexist, Buddhist, tourist or just flat aggressive, people are idiots, they'll gratuitously criticize EVERYTHING and ANYTHING.
If you make a mistake, they'll all remember, especially with YouTube there to make sure your actions go viral. If you're too good, you'll attract hatred. There's no way out, and you can't start fighting off every single fly that comes your way, or you'll spend your whole lifetime making your life tidy.

You have this wrong Sam. Nadolo was the target of a single racial slur from some lowlife scumbag when he was out with a couple of the other Crusaders. He tweeted about that, he did not receive racist tweets, or at least, he has not said that he has.

ETA: Oops, ninja'd

Yeah I totally jumped the gun out of anger lol. Thats why I deleted my opening post to this thread. Sorry if I've mislead anyone. My bad.
