Ive been playing off and on for more years than I want to mention normally at prop but have recently lost a lot of weight and as such dont have the brute weight for the position anymore. I have filled in at prop but have had to sit this season out due to injury however I'm looking to get back to playing next season
I'm looking for some general advice on a good position for me, I'll be playing in the SRU regional leagues most probably, my stats are.
Height 5'11 (1.80M)
Weight 14st (89Kg)
I have always played in the forwards and think I'm quite good at open play and tackling, rucking and mauling.
Any advice gratefully received.

Yeah I'm in a similar boat to you, I'll be getting back into playing next season after a while out - I've always played in the forwards but I'm trying to train for moving into the backs as I'm about a stone lighter than you. If you were quite fit then you'd probably make a good back row player - tackling/strong carrying is a must but being able to disrupt opposition ball through the rucks is absolutely crucial. I used to play flanker quite a bit and it's so much fun - especially when you've got a bit of size about you.

Depends on your fitness, but I would say yours stats are ok for flanker. They are pretty much the same as mine.

Getting to the break down fast is key but you have all the other skills.

Dont mean to come across rude but I would guess that his fitness is not good as he is out because hes injured, and hes taking the season off so it might take him some time to get his fitness back up.

Sorry for not replying back sooner.
For skills I'm not the greatest at catching high balls but can jump and flip back top open other areas of attack. I prefer working at pick and drive rucking or first up mauling so tend to stay in close to rucks and mauls and throw faster people out to the sides rather than have them sucked in. For pace I do ok at breaking gain lines but not so good over long distances. As for lineouts I'vre always either been a lifter or at tail sweeping so no problems with going back there.
My fitness is well how you would expect someones fitness whos had a year out rehabbing, my job is quite physical and so havent lost too much strength either static or dynamic. the reason I was asking for opinions for new positions is so I can look to building a prper fitness plan to get me ready for the new position from day one rather than trying to adapt later.
Once again any thoughts etc more then welcome and gratefully received.

Do not listen to anyone else :p

Everything you've mentioned practically writes out what position you should be playing in.

Hooker.

You can thank me later.

I see your point Jamie I was looking at it as, If you have taken a year out. That year would be spent on rehab and working on getting your fitness back. Not just on healing.

Kind of like what I did when I broke my leg, re-building the muscle, flexabilitiy etc.

Unfortunately the injury was to my lower back managed to slip a disc and affect my sciatic nerve, now (touch wood) all fine again and have been told by physio as long as I dont play prop she would recommend me going back to play so as to keep fitness up etc.

Just a quick check in any help advice or otherwise happily and gratefully received.
