Said it yourself, solid player. He was out for a lot of the season, and for some reason we only had one of FB in the squad, Vack....something, and he was very poor by example (he's off to Doncaster next season), so was missed when he was outI thought Sowden-Taylor is off to the Dragons? And it's probably Kingsley Jones' influence Olyy, just like Sant-Andre brought in French talent to Sale. Hows Nick MacLoud doing btw? I always liked him when he was with the Blues, very solid player tbf.
http://www.allblacks.com/news/13265/Franks-eyeballs-veteran-in-scrum-clashStrength is another Franks trademark, which the All Blacks coaches hope will see their scrum gain the upper hand early on.
The brothers, keen gym-goers, are the strongest men in the All Blacks and have epic battles in the weights room.
The elder Franks calls it even between them: he holds the deadlift record with 260kg, while Owen set the squat record with 280kg during pre-season training.
"He's probably got me on the squats just at the moment but I kind of blow him away in the deadlifts."
With Carl Hayman moving to Toulon, Tim Ryan moves the opposite way to replace him as the Falcons 1st choice tighthead.

You could be right. Ryan went to Toulon as an excellent ball carrier but out of shape and a poor scrummager. He didn't get much game time but as the season wore on, his physical conditioning seemed to improve and he was competent rather than spectacular in the scrum.Wow ... still believe an Irish province missed out on him. I think some money was involved in this deal.

From his point of view, even if Munster and Leinster were interested, Newcastle represents the better short term opportunity. He's 26 and needs regular games- neither of the big Irish provinces could guarantee even a regular slot on the bench. If Alan Tait is offering him the starting tighthead slot it'll aid his development a lot more. Perhaps after a couple of seasons getting battle hardened in the Premiership he'll be up to scratch in the tight. I may rag on the Premiership a lot but it's a very strong league for set pieces like scrummaging.
http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/rugby/news/article/-/7401688/wulf-set-toulonAll Blacks, Blues and North Harbour wing Rudi Wulf, is set for a move to French club rugby.
Toulon has announced on its website, that Wulf will join up with the team for the next two seasons.
Wulf has been capped four times by the All Blacks and played his last test in 2008.
Gavin Duffy has moved from Connacht to Ulster, as previously rumored. Could be another indicator that Conncaht is finished
