Two gypo welsh players to sale, not really expecting much. Probably just squad players for when we have internationals.

Saints sign massive prop from rugby neighbours

SoaneandBencropped.jpg

Northampton Saints have signed the massive prop Soane Tonga’uiha from their rugby neighbours Bedford Blues on a two-year deal. The Tongan international stands at 6ft 5ins tall and weighs in at 20st 7lbs making him the heaviest player in the Saints squad by at more than a stone. Lock Damien Browne is 19st 5lbs.

Tonga’uhia won two caps for Tonga against France and Italy in 2005, and three for the Pacific Islanders against South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in 2004.

The 23-year-old loosehead has been playing for Bedford for the past two seasons. He will begin training with Saints in the summer ahead of the 2006/07 season.

Tonga’uhia is the second player in as many years that Saints have signed from the Blues. Flanker Ben Lewitt crossed over the county border last season.

Director of rugby Budge Pountney said today: “Soane is a young, raw talent who we believe is ready for the step up into the Premiership. He has a good work ethic and at just 23 years old has an exciting future ahead of him. I am sure he will flourish at Franklin’s Gardens.â€

Theyv'e also signed David Akinluyi from Cambridge Uni (wing) and Christian Short from Connacht (lock).

That this rate, they'll turn into Worcester considering all the un-pronouncable names...

What positions do Hala'Ufia and Golding play?
Hala'Ufia is a no.8 (Tongan international). Golding is a prop with a LOT of potential. Began his career with Northampton.

Byrne would be a good signing for the Ospreys, but I'd rather he didn't go. Other than Barry Davies, we don't have any really good full-backs at Stradey :( (Yes, I do know about Garan Evans, but he's hardly played in ages and he's listed as a winger on the Scarlets website)

I think it's sad that NH clubs can't develop their own players.
You could say that about the SH teams, why have they got all those fiji/soman/tongan players?

Who are from the SH, who are born in New Zealand. Most NH clubs would have more pacific islanders than our provincal squads. Atleast we don't have to buy washed up players from other countries to make our competitions look good.
