Just read that former Canadian lock Norm Hadley has died aged 51. Enormous man, ex Wasp and quite a character. RIP.

Hot on the heels of Rabeni this was apparently another heart attack. Looking at the size of players nowadays and the physical demands put upon them I really hope there are proper screening programs in place. This is an entirely different ball game from replacement knees or hips.

Bad few days for Canadian rugby. Have also seen that John Cannon who won 31 caps up to 2007 died a few days ago at age 35. Again, a suspected heart attack.

Very sad. I can't say that I'd heard of John Cannon, but have fond memories of watching big Norm play, listening to him on Rugby Special. I remember the story about Jason Leonard punching him and about him confronting a couple of thugs on the London Underground will live on. All the reports I've read since his death paint the picture of a larger than life character in all regards.
