The Blues are likely to stick within the region when they appoint a new head coach for the 2009 Rebel Sport Super 14 season and beyond.
Auckland coach Pat Lam looms as the front-runner to replace the soon to be departed David Nucifora and Blues chief executive Andy Dalton says it is an advantage to appoint from within the franchise. He says they have some good candidates through Auckland, North Harbour and Northland and he hopes they put their names forward.
Dalton says he has talked to Lam, Wayne Pivac and Mark Anscombe throughout the process and while all three are interested in the position, it remains to be seen whether they will apply. He is hoping to make an appointment by July once they have concluded a review of the current season.
