Edinburgh Gunners’ centre Matt Dey has re-signed for the capital pro-team for a further two years.

He joined Edinburgh from Heriot’s in season 2003-04 having helped the Goldenacre outfit lift the BT Cup the previous season. This year he has played in 11 matches for the Gunners.

He made his senior Scotland debut in the uncapped match against Super 12 outfit New South Wales Waratahs on the 2004 summer tour of Australasia, having joined the party as injury cover.

On re-signing with the club, Matt said: “I’m very happy to have signed again. We’ve got great players at this club and I really think we are going places. I’ve enjoyed my time with Edinburgh and at the moment I don’t want to play for anyone else.

“This is a great time to be involved in Scottish rugby and I’m really pleased that I’ve managed to string a good run of games together recently. I started off playing in the match 22 and then moved into the starting line-up which was fantastic. Long may it continue,†he added.

Gunners’ head coach Todd Blackadder said: “It’s good news for us. Matt is starting against Cardiff tomorrow so what better way to go into a match than knowing you’ve re-signed with the club.

“He’s a strong player and I think he has got a lot of potential for the future. I’m sure that by re-signing Matt we will see him deliver big things for us in the years to come,†he added.

Matt will start at inside centre against Cardiff Blues in tomorrow (Friday 7 April) night’s Celtic League clash at Murrayfield.

More good news for Edinburgh. Looks like Blackadder wants to build for the future, even though he won't be here and it's poisitive action by the SRU and hopefully a few more new faces in the summer.

I think the players that have had their deals renewed so far are:

Matt Dey
Scott Murray
Alan Jacobson
Mike Blair
Simon Webster
Hugo Southwell
Chris Paterson
Ally Hogg
Ally Kellock
Phil Godman
Simon Cross

Rory Lawson is to join Gloucester at the end of the season though.

Looks like we're going to grow as a team over the next years and hopefully we'll win the league at some point and do something in the Heineken Cup.
