Why is he not involved anywhere ? He was an international coach, and he beat the All Blacks 5 times, won a Tri-Nations and beat the British Lions.
Surely, he should be involved at the very least at Currie Cup level.

My guess is because he proved to set a very poor example with the things that he said which were often quite controversial and in some cases just stupid. Then after he lost his job as Springbok coach he did a very good job of burning bridges with the connections that he had. Many chalk up his success down to the squad that he had instead of his ability as a coach. In terms of what he did post Springboks I know he coached a team in varsity cup (I think it was either UWC or CPUT), but not sure what happened after that.

However his comments he has been making about Heyneke Meyer and the Springboks of late has surely resulted in the burning of all bridges at provincial level in South Africa.

Was he really the brains behind that though?

Perhaps some South Africans tell me otherwise, but from what I understood it was Gary Gold and leaders like Matfield and Du Preez in charge of that side and PDivvy was a clown as the figurehead only for political reasons who did more to hold back an outstanding generation of players from what they could have achieved over the 2008-11 quad. It is no surprise to me that he isn't in much demand anywhere for his services.

Coaching the Springboks was probably the best it got for PDV.

After that he coached a Varsity team, the University of the Western Cape, in the Second Division, but he didn't have so much success as with the Boks. Most probably because he didn't have the same calibre support staff and experienced players that basically coached themselves.

He was then fired from that job due to bad performance, and since then, he has been struggling to get work. Not even the top 100 rugby high schools wants him. He even sent his CV in to coach Zimbabwe and Kenya's XV, but without success.

Nobody likes him, nobody wants him, and his rants about HM just makes him sound like another COSATU member.

Unfortunately what was on his mind - was idiotic ramblings.

Him not being retained wasn't racist. If I'm honest - I think the Lions team of 2009 was the best Springbok team I've ever seen. He selected players like Brussouw which I feel he didn't get credit for (as I'm not sure Jake White would have - and HM hasn't). With that said - he made a tonne of absolutely terrible selections. I remember him defending Earle Rose as some genius rugby player - who just wasn't getting the chance. He sucked. Plain and simple. His comments which were mentioned by YoungSkud - on how Burger's gouging was his nature and that it shoudn't be punished - and that if it was players should be wearing tutu's. It was just embarrassing. Being there for burning the Springbok jersey - his constant victim attitude. Peter de Villiers was a disgrace. He selected starters well past their prime (which HM is also very, very guilty of) - but the reality is he never took any responsibility for defeats. It was the referees fault. Or the IRBs fault. Or South Africa rugby's fault. When he was coach it was a really ugly time to be on this forum - because of the hundreds of allegations of bias from de Villiers and the supporters.

Whatever HM's faults have been as a coach, he has been an example of sportsmanship. He owns his losses, and praises the players for the wins. His resume is more impressive in terms of what he achieved prior to taking over the Boks as well. People remember de Villiers for what he was - a loud mouth.

That was a pretty strong Lions team, full of really talented and experienced players and players that were at their peak like Jamie Roberts. They were unbeaten on the tour until they met the Boks and lost in Durban for the first time, and then the series in Pretoria. You had a very good Lions side vs a Brilliant Bok side. If Heyneke Meyer had been appointed four years earlier and had been in charge of that team, one wonders what really could have been.

As average as PdV was - his teams use of up and unders - and breakdown protocols of not releasing - were exactly what was needed (strangely much more stampkar rugby than HM).

Maybe true, but if he had won he would have been retained. The problem is, SA were knocked out at the QF stage of the RWC. Unfairly perhaps, but knocked out they were.

Aussie played ou of their skin in that game and it's pretty unfair to the Wallabies to say they won unfairly.
I felt sorry to see Jaques Fourie go out of the tournament because he was a wonderfully skilled player to watch. A rare and special talent.
But the Aussies won that game fair and square and it was a mighty battle.
Never count the Wallabies out in a tournament setting.

From my perspective, i would like to see de Villiers coach the Kings in Super Rugby.
