Premiership Rugby 18/19 - Rd 10

Thought Tinds was down to Greenwood's preference for always wearing 13 for superstitious reasons? So in the 03 final Tinds wore 12 at OC and Greenwood 13 at IC.

One of the few times Greenwood wore 12 was in the 97 Lions match which nearly killed him.
Against Orange free state I think.

Way to make a guy feel old....!

They just dropped number 13, so outside centre wore 14, right winger 15 and fullback 16. I've always assumed that was why Jeremy Guscott and Mike Tindall (Bath players) both played outside centre but wore number 12 for England, because they didn't want to wear 13.
IIRC we didn't "just drop" the 13 shirt. We retired it after losing 2 OCs during one of the world wars - or something like that.

There were a fair few similar traditions that got killed, one or two teams who counted LHP as #15, FB as #1, or counted the props THP => LHP, other retired shirts etc.

Guscotf and Tindall both refused to where the 13 shirt. Greenwood preferred 12 as he saw himself as a specialist IC, but would where 13 alongside a Bathman - Tins and Gusset because they refused, Catt because he was actually willing to play OC outside Catt, but only outside Catt

Cheers, obviously confusing myself.
Either way, a mark of respect, not a superstition

Was agreat contest between chiefs and sarries. Great to see LCD stepping up as well as Kvesic stepping up at 8. Young guys like lonsdale and lawday stepping up is great to see

Lawday isn't that young is he? Is he not about 26 or 27? More of a late bloomer.

Actually yeh your right he's 25. I assumed he was a young guy as i havnt really heard of him much. My bad. Im impressed with kvesic though, he is stepping up at 8 but id happily have him back at 7 with Simmonds and ewers back eventually. The top of the table is getting rediculous though with the difference in points.

If gloucester wins with bp and falcons 0 points.
Difference between
1st and 2nd 3 points
2nd and 3rd 9 points
3rd and 5th (4th if wasp get 0 points today) 9 points
5th(or 4th) and 12th 9 points

I think my maths is correct haha but cpuple of drinks means who knows.

Didn't see a Exeter win coming in that style, still think sarries in the semi/final would be slight favourites.

Hoping Wasps can turn around this second half, need to stop ******* around at the scrum we are clearly outmatched at least try and get it in and out not concede the pen before even putting the ball in... something needs to change we just don't look the same since cips and Wade left, think Gopperth is missed as well very under rated player doesn't really have the wow factor but always reliable and solid and does the basics very well, Daly perhaps guilty of trying too hard and things that come off when u are confident simply aren't.

There are some even more ridiculous stats. 4th place Wasps with 5 wins and 5 losses have a points difference of -47. At the moment my concern is that the high scoring games with lots of bonus points are not to do with English clubs playing good attacking rugby, but English clubs having very poor defences. This is shown in Europe where only Saracens have been competitive in the Champions cup and even in the challenge cup all English teams have lost at least 1 game. I think 1-3 should be sorted barring a complete loss of form. 4th and below will be ridiculously competitive this year as currently the gap from 4th to 12th is only 8 points.

agree prem defences seem to be lacking, I am really struggling to see what some of them are trying to achieve at times, still wonder if it largely stems from the breakdown and the prem teams inability to slow the ball down in the same way others do, if that happens you can't organise defenders effectively and it just gets narrower, not saying it's all around that but a fair bit you would feel, my biggest surprise is that Exeter can't compete more effectively in Europe, a few years ago you could argue it wasn't a priority and they simply didn't have a squad which could realisticallly compete on both fronts but I think that's a season or two out of date now. English rugby just seems to have gone backward a few steps in the last few seasons, there were some very good wins in EJs early days but for much of the streak it was simply a case of knowing how to win rather than via controlling a game, not sure there is a simple fix, a couple of breakdown specialists may help, shame Jack Willis got injured he was really starting to look quality especially considering how young he is.

Wasps are in just as bad a place as Tigers currently.

Potentially worse if the rumours of Daly, Hughes and le Roux leaving end of season are to be believed, sadly I think there might be some truth to it.

Apparently Hughes' move to Bristol is all but confirmed and the rumour linking Daly to Saracens won't go away.

Probably more worryingly, Brookes, Stuart and Cooper-Woolley have all been strongly linked with moves as well as Taylor and McIntyre (although less strongly). The latter is replaceable but has been missed this season and tightheads and hookers are hard to come by. Losing multiple front row players in one window could be very damaging.

The only links I can think of players potentially on their way to Wasps are Vailanu (if Sarries agree to it) and Fekitoa (presumably to replace Daly.

Blimey hadn't heard the rumours of the front row, defiantly agree finding replacements on mass is a tall order, assuming quality could be found it would take a while to Gel with a team already struggling that hardly inspires confidence.

Will Stuart to Bath is apparently all but confirmed and Cooper-Woolley is apparently off to Sale.

Taylor has re-signed though so the rumours of him leaving are not as well-founded as they seemed.

Well we are in trouble. We need to get a few wins under our belt.

On the rumour front...apparently Leicester are hovering around Calum Green. And Calum Chick in negotiations with Tigers and Saints.

Your not wrong about the wins, Lima obviously wasnt integrated in as Di would have hoped with Gopparth being injured, hopefully he has a similar late impact like Le Roux did, he is quality just haven't seen enough of it for Wasps yet.

fair play to Quins probably the better team, thought the reffing was pretty bad at times if I'm honest, consistency would be nice Daly chucks the ball Wasps concede the pen, 10 minutes later Brown does it and it go back to the scrum for the previous knock on, not to mention Ward if he did spit should have been a red all day, all in all though a fair result. Hopeful the returning injured players will make an impact, got news on a few contract renewals so some light at least.
