Lineout and defense was what let us down and both are coachable areas.
Defense was simply wrong from tactica pov and and didn't helped the players, it's a coaching failure first and foremost. Yet some Oaks showed good defensive work, especially Ser and Boboc.
Lineout was a long time issue, we lost the first game of qualification vs Russia on botched throw ins. We had a revival when Steve Scott was forwards coach but we didn't kept what was good. Coaching team needs to decide how to approach this area and stop change the system from match to match, we have enough strength and physicality to play proper line outs. Cojocaru needs to sort this part of his game if he wants to remain as a leader of the team.
Scrum was good and shined vs a much heavier Tonga and we have a bunch of players there, still young enough to play to next RWC.
There is some positivity and ideed we tried to play faster in last years, under Robinson and Apjock equally. Considering the opposition, our ruck wasn't bad and we managed to gain ground playing with ball in hand even against best teams, we had some good moments vs all of them but too short. Also the number of penalities was OKish considering how good were the teams we played minus the situation with Scotland (albeit one yellow was a bit too much, the one who went to Simionescu). Also Conache yellow card from Tonga match was kind of to easily awarded. But generally we had good refeering, can't complain, especially if you compare with what Fiji or Samoa had in some of their games.
Not featured in article is tactical kicking, this was a mixed area but Simionescu or Vaovasa (and maybe Melinte when he'll be back) will offer nice tactical options. I still think Boldor can be a good kicking fly-half but he needs to put more effort. Conache also needs to up his kicking game. Negative point in this aspect of the game was Rupanu vs Ireland, until he started to kick we gained territory constantly from territorial kicking.
Boboc and Ser were both oustanding as tacklers, I am especially surprised by Boboc who isn't flashy but he delivers when necessary and Ser seem to recover well from injury.
As for disappointments, Rosu with his experience delivered way too little. He's a 30 yrs old after all but way too little from him. Iancu is other player who shouldn't have been there, he was a dead had all tournament and is simply not for required level, it's hard to understand how Antonescu, Mahu and even Macovei (recovered in time to play SA) stayed home to make room for these two. And the list of players left home in an inexplicable does not end here (e.g. Popa). Anotherf failure of the staff was to alienate players like Septar and this is how you end up with Manumua playing on the wing. This is simply bad management from both staff and FRR.
