[RWC19 Warm-Up] - England vs Wales

That’d be a first.

Whatever the reason for the changes it’s plain ridiculous. I really have very little faith left in Jones. I welcome free thinkers, but coherency and judgement seem to have long left the building.

He does make some strange decisions... I wouldn’t put it past him that he actually know what he’s doing though. Also his interviews are priceless and I’ll miss him when he’s gone because of that!

I think we all understand that NZ are still the best
As I type this right now they aren't, Wales are actually the best international rugby team in the world. Everyone can check the ranking and see that.

Savor the moment. Tomorrow it could change or it could be an officially recognised moment in history. Wales fully deserve it to be honest and if it happened to another team like Samoa you can bet they would be enjoying it, even if it was just for one day.

Give me a dour, clear thinking Kiwi any day of the week.

I think it was Greenwood who said early doors that Jones was great for a short term boost, but doubted he could put together a longer term plan. I’ve seen nothing to contradict that.

If we're being pedantic if you check the rankings right now Wales are 2nd, they don't get updated until Monday.
So while they're technically world no.1 right now they're in limbo until the website updates (or they lose tomorrow).

Yeah he does seem to have the Mourinho-air about him (instant success followed by strange decisions and ‘rumours’ of unrest etc)... as you have alluded to though, no way I’d swap him in for Gats and his dour, grenade lobbing.

Ahh... ‘English Pedanticness’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. :p

*pedantry

Having Ludlum in for Underhill is a loss. I'm glad JJ and Joe are coming in, I'd have preferred them to start to begin with. Bench is a joke though, it's a warm game cant they just recalled players to balance it out.

How the rankings unofficially are right now: (they will change after England vs Wales before they're officially updated)

  1. 89.96 Wales
  2. 89.05 New Zealand
  3. 88.69 Ireland
  4. 86.82 South Africa
  5. 86.27 England
  6. 84.40 Australia
  7. 80.17 Scotland
  8. 79.42 France
  9. 77.21 Japan
  10. 76.98 Fiji
  11. 76.29 Argentina
  12. 74.42 Georgia
  13. 72.04 Italy
  14. 71.94 USA
I'm guessing SA we're far enough ahead to not be able to gain anything, even away from home?

0.52 RP (already updated in that post), including the 1.5x weighting for the 15+ pt margin. Small but not *that* small - they just happen to have some empty space above them. (and Argentina has empty space below them)

Comparison: If Argentina had won it would have been 1.65 RP gained. Australia won 2.49 RP this week. Japan won 0.59, Fiji, Tonga and of course Ireland got nothing for their wins.
The most New Zealand can win next week is 0.35 RP.

Wales can win 0.93 (or 1.40 with a 15+ margin)
England can win 1.07 (or 1.60 with a 15+ margin, or 0.07 for a draw)

A win would put England in 4th. A loss would put Wales in 2nd, a big loss would put Wales in 3rd.
But if Wales win, those teams will also just move into empty space.

Its been said enough by me and a lot of others that our second or third team is still good enough .now for the acid test cant wait now

, I do worry for England with Ford and no Faz at all.
Personally, that delights me, after all, he's always looked better without Farrell than with.
My worry is that Ford works better with a get-out-of-jail-free option in the centres, whether that's Kyle buying time with his footwork, or Manu able to make ground from nothing.
JJ in form can provide that option, but not so much recently, whilst Francis simply doesn't as far as I can see.

Thats pretty amusing if anything I would say Wales going full strength on the first warmup was a more bizarre choice unless of course WG feels that any loss would make them more fragile and potentially destroy the current confidence, I do worry for England with Ford and no Faz at all.

I think the Wales going full bore thing is just to get the players actually playing... I’ve mentioned it a few times that Gats has the boys doing little to no ball work during camp, so it is the first game or too where the players get to shake the dust off.

I think Jokes may be treating this game with a little contempt. If we’re honest it’s a money making scheme for the RFU and sponsors and means very little. So wales want to throw their top players in to get their handling up, England want to experiment with some options that will probably never come out again. Apart from providing a bit of rugger to watch on a Sunday afternoon I don’t think this is going to tell us very much at all. I don’t even think the result matters. If England win and Wales don’t take the top spot I very much doubt it will have that much impact on them. WG has developed a pretty mentally strong squad who’ve got a lot more fight in them that. And if wales win England will simply say they were just messing about with lineup and never expected much from the contest. I just hope no players get the WC snatched away from them due to injury in a set of games that mean nothing.

Although I would have a slight rye smile if Ford gets taken out and Jones has to call up Cips. Love to be a fly on the wall if that conversation has to take place. “Hi mate, it’s Eddie. You know how I’ve mugged you off for years despite you being consistently one of the best 10s in the prem as recognised by players, coaches and fans alike from across the known universe, and instead I went with the softest northerner in the history of the north who is made of biscuits and has lead a top premeriship side into the gutter, well....
