On paper I reckon Europe have the stronger team overall. At the peak of their performance, Mickelson, Love and Woods may not be matched by any players from Europe. However, Clarke, Casey, Poulter, Garcia and Westwood, will certainly have the advantage over the USA's 'middle' players.

My prediction.

USA 12 Europe 16

Have to go for Europe, was surprised that Langer went for Donald over Jacobsen but hey it's his choice. Fancy Europe to win it by 14½-13½.

Morning pairings for the fourballs have been anounced

Pairings have been anounced for the Friday foursomes

Di Marco/Haas v Jimenez/Levet

Love/Funk v Harrington/Montgomerie

Woods/Mickelson v Clarke/Westwood

Perry/Cink v Garcia/Donald

Fantastic start for Europe, best result after 4 matches ever, and we haven't even released Poults on 'em yet.

Great first day for the Europeans leading 6½ - 1½, slap in the face for Sutton pairing Woods and Mickleson together and getting beaten both times.

Afternoon results

DiMarco/Haas v Jimenez/Levet
won 3 and 2

Love/Funk v Mont'rie/H'ton
lost 4 and 2

Mickelson/Woods v Clarke/W'wood
lost 1 up

Perry/Cink v Garcia/Donald
lost 2 and 1

Woohoo! Go Europe! I'm not much of a golf fan, but 5 points ahead after the first day doesn't sound too bad.

Today's Fourballs:

Haas/DiMarco v Garcia/Westwood (1310 BST)

Woods/Riley v Clarke/Poulter (1325 BST)

Casey/Howell v Furyk/Campbell (1340 BST)

Cink/Love III v Montgomerie/Harrington (1355 BST)

If Europe can come out at 2-2 after the morning fourballs they should be well pleased, the Americans should really capitalise on a weak middle 2 matches.

The Americans have played much much better this morning in the fourballs but only won them 2½ - 1½, with Casey and Howell claiming the scalp of Furyk and Campbell after being 1 down playing the 17th. Felt sorry for Harrington this morning with Monty playing shite. Good idea to rest him in the afternoon foursomes.

Afternoon foursomes

DiMarco/Haas v Clarke/Westwood

Mickelson/Toms v Jimenez/Levet

Furyk/Funk v Garcia/Donald

Love/Woods v Harrington/McGinley

Fantastic afternoon for the Europeans winning the foursomes 3-1, couple of drubbings from Clarke/Westwood and Harrington/McGinley. Overall lead 11-5 for Europe.

Singles draw has been anounced for tomorow, am very surprised to see Howell and Casey that high up the order despite the fact that they played well today, thought Langer would have packed the top 6 with his big guns. It's a very good draw for the Americans with the potential to get plenty of red on the leaderboard early on.

Tiger Woods v Paul Casey
Phil Mickelson v Sergio Garcia
Davis Love v Darren Clarke
Jim Furyk v David Howell
Kenny Perry v Lee Westwood
David Toms v Colin Montgomerie
Chad Campbell v Luke Donald
Chris DiMarco v Miguel Angel Jimenez
Fred Funk v Thomas Levet
Chris Riley v Ian Poulter
Jay Haas v Padraig Harrington
Stewart Cink v Paul McGinley

Better chance of the reverse happening.

Whopping great win for Europe today beating the USA 18½ - 9½, my apologies Woodie, Poulter delivered in great style beating Riley 3&2. Monty sank the winning putt and Harrington put the icing on the cake by sinking a 25 footer downhill on the last to get the final point. Hats off to Langer, fantastic captain, wouldn't begrudge him a second go in the K-Club.
