This season's Six Nations was watched by record television audiences in the United Kingdom.

The Championship, broadcast by the BBC, was played out in front of packed houses and also an average live viewing figure of 4.6million people.

The number of viewers eclipsed the previous high point since the introduction of the Six Nations in 2000, 4.4m in 2009, as England were denied a Grand Slam by a brilliant Irish performance in Dublin.

England's clash with France drew a peak audience of 9.6m while the opening game between Wales and Martin Johnson's men, the last Friday night fixture for the foreseeable future, was watched by 8.2m. England's Calcutta Cup clash with Scotland recorded a figure of 8.0m.
