Stag Do

Gents, Ladies (maybe they are on this forum and I don’t want to be deemed a misogynist)

I am planning my stag do for the final weekend of the 6 nations next year and I need input from the Irish folk on the forum.

Where would you recommend? My best man is really pushing for Galway, but are there other places of good natured spirit. I want to avoid Dublin if I’m honest.

Where would you recommend? My best man is really pushing for Galway, but are there other places of good natured spirit. I want to avoid Dublin if I'm honest.

I'd avoid Dublin yeah too expensive and not as fun on big bank holiday weekends in my experience.

Galway is a cracker of a city and you can't go too wrong with the west coast.

Westport is a nice town with great pubs that can cater to stags. I'd probably say this is your best shout.

Lahinch and Killarney are good options too (Killarney isn't coastal if that's a factor and would be the spot with the least interest in rugby, gaelic football is option a, b and c there).

Carlingford is a nice option on the east coast so a bit closer but I'd back any of the above before it.

Achill Island is another great spot a bit more off the beaten track but it could be tricky to get somewhere there for St Patricks weekend now.

Other stag towns that might be mentioned that I'd avoid are Carrick on Shannon and Sligo, a bit rougher around the edges than the others in my experience.

Saunas have become incredibly popular in Ireland and any of these places are likely to have one, most of them by the sea so you can take a cold dip in between if that interests you at all To recover from night 1!

Thanks for the response. Much appreciated. I want to do St Patrick’s day but I don’t really get the say. The BM is pushing for April and to get a Connacht game so he can dress me up in something another and stand me on the terraces. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’ll stick me in a full England kit.

Might go down better than a Leinster kit these days at least!

Enjoy it when you do come. You double.your chances of a nice day in April over March too in any case (there's about 4 in April usually) and they're all class spots for beer gardens anyway!

What are you looking for in it? LB's post won't stir you wrong but if there's something in particular you're looking for in your trip other places might be options.

Good atmosphere, many bars, good stout (I enjoy beamish more than Guinness from memory). I wanted a place good to watch rugby, the best man wants to actually watch a game. So it’s either Galway or Limerick it seems.

Wexford. If you are after something a bit smaller but still nice Wexford is the place to be.

Would echo the commments above. Kilkenny also a very popular stag location that is well liked. Nice town, well used to stags and hens. Galway is a very good spot and compact enough for pub crawling etc. Doesn't have much by way of clubs or whatever anymore though. Stadium to middle of town is a very doable walk.

Lots of places around Kerry and Donegal that would be good options if you wanted to do some watersport stuff, surfing whatever.

Westport will cover that as well.

Westport is a beautiful spot. Direct train from Dublin too
