SuperRugby: Cheetahs v Chiefs. 14/04/2012

Bonus point, Goosen you absolute beauty.

Johan Goosen and Robert Ebersohn are future boks. Definitely.

Was anyone else also really, really impressed by Piet van Zyl?

That chiefs backline, woah! Lethal stuff.

Yeah I thouGht piet van Zyl did great under a lot of pressure at the back of the ruck. Goosen has to be in the springboks at some point. Johnson was impressive and should start next week. I thought cruden played well and so did messam. Horwhil played well but I'd stick with robbie Robinson. Kerr-Barlow made some good breaks. taumololo was excellent again and I thought both ebersohns were good

Oh yeah shame, Sias living a bit in Goosen and his brother's shadow. I thought he played really well. Could see he was disappointed with his one kick.

It's a complete an utter waste, next year he has to move to the Stormers or the Kings to get some Super Rugby.

mmm... Normally I would agree, but I dunno. I'm a Stormers supporter but I'd like to see the Cheetahs do well. Hell if only they could keep their players. I mean look at what Grey College has produced over the years.

Imagine these guys in the backline.

9. Ruan Pienaar
10. Johan Goosen
12. Francois Steyn
13. Robert Ebersohn

And THIS frontrow:

1. Coenie Oosthuizen
2. Bismarck du Plessis
3. Jannie du Plessis.

I mean really...

Kicking aside I rate Sias higher than Johan.
Shame the Ebersohns are a 'package deal'. Sias would do well elsewhere (Not WP, they have enough 10s!).

We have no quality 10's and the sharks have a tendency to break good players.

;)

Oh and Andries Strauss also impressed me today, played his heart out. Suck on that Sharkies! :D

Nono I don't mean Johan should move, I mean it's a waste of talent to have someone of Sias's quality on the bench, he should move somewhere he will get some game time, otherwise he's just going to go overseas (and who could blame him really).

@Draggs, they aren't good enough though :P.

I know what you mean SomeOke, I just don't like the feeling of Cheetahs losing more quality players. I mean what if Johan gets injured. But then again that wouldn't be fair to Sias...

Eish baas, is moeilik!

Although to be completely honest I won't mind seeing both Ebersohn boeties in the Stormer's backline ;)

I never had a problem with Andries. Never thought he was the greatest but certainly not our worst centre ever.
It is a shame to have Sias on the bench, he is undoubtedly a quality player with a bright future, it would be a shame to see him waste it on the bench. He wouldn't oust our Patrick, but he is a better player than Jantjies.

Really enjoyed the game and the Cheetahs style of play but after what happened last year ( all their awesome play makers except the Ebersohns bro left). They should stick to their quality players.

Curious if the Chiefs can keep their momentum. Sharks are a good team but with some up and downs this year.
Last year we won in Hamilton after having some injuries in the squad. Now we have a better squad, so fingers crossed.

Cheetahs defense let them down again with conceding two soft tries in the space of a few minutes. To be fair though the Chiefs were dominating precedings and the Cheetahs were lucky to be as close as they were at that stage.

Amobokoboko, the problem with the Cheetahs is that Bloemfontein is a relatively small city as cities go and very isolated so you won't get guys from Welkom driving in to Bloem whereas you'd get WP supporters coming in to Cape Town from Paarl and Bellville etc. So they don't have that big supporter base and are strapped for cash with nowhere near the type of sponsorship deals the Stormers for example have with DHL. Also compounding the effect is that most players would prefer to live and work in cities such as Cape Town or Durban or have access to the rugby resources and culture in Pretoria which is also a pretty city with their Jacaranda's.

The Chiefs are really looking good this year. I had them down as 3rd in the NZ conference but am glad (ITO of fantasy rugby picks) that I've started backing them earlier than most. Sharks at Durban are tough but with the Chief's momentum and the Sharks coming back off a grueling tour.. well, I'm very tempted to keep picking the Chiefs and will probably do so.

Sias Ebersohn or Johan Goosen need to come to Cape Town... and bring Piet van Zyl along LOL!! Problem with the Stormers was and still is a lack of class tighthead, and halves. Harris, Duvenhage and Grant won't be in line for a Bok spot nevermind a world XV consideration. Look at the teams that have won the tournament's halback pairings; Gregan/Larkham, Genia/Cooper, Ellis/Carter, FdP/Steyn, Marshall/Spenser etc. Ebersohn is a classy player wasted on the Cheetahs bench. I for one am a firm laises faire capitalist and if the WPRU can lure some underpaid Cheetahs players (as much as I love the Cheetahs) I'll unashamedly cheer their arrival. It's either that or lose them to Europe.

I'm aware of the situation the Cheetahs have, but look at somebody like Juan Smith (he's sticking around). I reckon that when you have plenty of passion and a decent salary you should stay. My two cents.

Chiefs looked good, some stupid turn overs tho. Need to be focussed the full 80 minutes and no freebees to the Sharks.
I'm already thinking ahead and maybe the Chiefs can do what the Reds did last year :)

A few players (particularly Smith and Brussow) are payed salaries inline with their CV. Smith, on top of being captain, also has a lot of business interests in Bloemfontein to take care of. Not to mention he is an old-school sort of loyal player and has said that the time away from family and friends when on Bok duty is more than enough time away from home, so yeah, you still get those sort of playres.

Yeah, you should also sign Steyn, Jantjies, Butch James, Henry Honiball, and Naas Botha.
Don't know what the Cheetahs coaches (and Griquas, credit where it is due) do, but each year, after losing many good players, they still come out and put on some good performances. Perhaps we'll have to sign some of their backroom staff.

Good game and Chiefs deserved to win
Piet van Zyl is turning into a formidable no 9
I don't rate the Eberson twins higher than any reasonably good player, they miss to many tackles, checks the stats from last.
Sias is better but the centre disappears is not effective in a tight game

As for Goosen, who would not want this lad?
