The Ashes

Queue more distastefulness from Aussie Media.

nah, if it's one thing our media take seriously it's mental illness/depression etc. nobody's joking about what happened to Trott, in fact the media are saying that his welfare is more important than cricket and he's made the right call.

it is what it is and hopefully he can overcome it, great player and going to be hard to replace.... so that poses the question of who will replace him?

It should be a bloke who should have been on the tour from day 1, Nick Compton but expect a Test Match ground county player to be called up.

I'd like to see Ballance. Bloke has some game but England will probably look at Stokes as the Botham / Flintoff link they feel they need.

The official Ashes game with all the licenses and stuff was deemed so bad that it got pulled after a week on sale. Embarrassing, it looks worse than a free internet game. Surprised the big teams gave their name to it.

Saw that look at some game play videos, it's a joke. The game has been abandoned, they aren't even going to try and finish is and salvage it.

What a farce, I was considering pre ordering it when I first saw it on amazon, just as well I didnt.

Really enjoyed the first test. For me Haddin and Johnson where the stand out men. Can 't wait for the second test.
Pity there was only 2-3 months time gab between both series.

So, anyone looking forward to this? Personally I think it's a bit bizarre having 2 ashes in 1 year, but will be catching the highlights.

Can't see an Australian win, even with the apparent media campaign against KP and Broad.

Jeez this is looking pretty off the mark right now isn't it?

HA! Just a little bit!
That said, I don't like the idea of 2 ashes so close to each other. Takes the shine off the occasion, and I haven't found myself as bothered about it as I was in the summer. I might not be the biggest cricket fan, but usually find myself keeping up with the Ashes, no matter who's winning.

Really proud of the Aussies efforts to get into this position.

2 spinners was a mistake for England and they should have picked ballance + another specialist paceman. Monty is making swann look second rate as well.

I'm not that surprised by Australia's dominance in the series so far. Basically Australia have a fantastic fast bowling line up (they basically have 10 world class fast bowlers: Siddle, Pattinson, Bird, Johnson, Harris, Starc, Faulkner etc). They also have Clarke who has an absolutely fantastic batsman. Basically their fast bowling attack and Clarke have been so good that the fact that Watson, Bailey, Smith etc are not test quality has been covered up. Clarke can't always score runs and when he doesn't Australia will be in trouble. England have a more well-rounded side but less out and out brilliance.

Over exaggeration of the bowlers, they dont have 10 World class bowlers. Johnson is the only one who can be classed as "world class" on his day and he doesnt have those days enough. The others range from good (Siddle, Pattinson) to promising (Starc, Faulkner). Their batting relies on Clarke and Watson. As a team theyre still nothing special but are perhaps better at being a "team" than England are right now.

From my point of view this Test couldnt have gone any worse. To lose the rock in the batting order to his unfortunate illness therefore casting the batting order into a bit of disarray (Bell should be at 3, not Root) then to lose the toss on that pitch which their batting took full advantage then we make a complete arse of it and get skittled and now they lead by over 500.

It'll need a heroic batting effort second time around to save this and frankly we have no heroes in this team, none who can claim to be on any form anyway.

How do you define world class? It is a stupid word really which has no definition and exists in no dictionaries. So you can define it however you want. World class to me just means you would make any international team around the world. Basically if a bowler can average under 30 for me he is world class. Those guys would walk into most teams. I can't believe you don't think Harris is world class - easily the 3rd best quick on the world after Philander and Steyn. Jackson bird only 3 test matches but averages 23. Look at how Faulkner did in his first test. You can pick anyone of those 10 guys and not lose too much (apart from Harris). Not like South Africa where it is a big drop from Steyn to De Lange.

Also Watson is terrible - not up to test cricket at all unless he bowls a significant amount of overs. I don't see how the batting can rely on Watson when in the last three years he has averaged 24, 31 and 30. Perhaps you meant Warner?

Anyway my point was that Australia is just papering over the cracks.

Oz found the rhythm. Batting line up is doing there job, Bowlers taking wickets.
England has issues. Trott out and replaced by Monthy. I reckon their bowlers are good enough but the batsmen don't really fire.
