Wales’s crushing of England at the conclusion of the RBS 6 Nations this year, highlighted Englands*lack of balance in the back row. With the England captain left out of the British and Irish Lions tour*to Australia and the emergence of Will Fraser and Matt Kvesic as genuine out and out openside side*wing forwards, are the [...]

hah. Interesting read...I dunno about Robshaw specifically in that backrow in Cardiff 2013, but I do think he's taking blame he shouldn't be taking. As always, whenever there's a problem, turn to the head...
As the writer says, his work rate is great. Tremendous heart and hard work, and an efficient flanker...he's not the most talented, but he's certainly efficient.
I don't like the idea of criticizing Robshaw, but maybe I haven't got all the facts at hand, maybe I've missed some things...but he seems like a good, young, solid pair of shoulders you can pile pressure on.

I thought Robshaw (and Parling) played reasonably well in Cardiff. He only missed out on Lions selection because the back row was such an obvious area of strength.Daft to write him off I think.

Robshaw is best suited to 6, he will play there.
He's a great leader, but not a good captain IMO. Someone else will take over once the team has settled.
I don't think either him or Wood are in a good position to be captain, simply because the competition at 6 means that no-one is nailed on.
Parling is a possibility, but again, you'll have to wait until after the AI's and 6n to see whether he can weather the oncoming storm of competition.
Is Ben Morgan a left field possibility?

I would be extremely disappointed if Thomas Waldrom is selected for the EPS or Saxons.

Robshaw is still my favourite for the 6 shirt. His work rate frees up Morgan/Kvesic to do their thing, and I think he's a great jack-of-all-trades to have.

It depends. If Kvesic blows everyone away at the start of the season and claws into the XV for the AIs, then it may be that Lancaster moves the captaincy to Parling or Morgan or someone.

But if it takes longer, then there may be enough time for one of Robshaw-Croft-Wood to shine through, or it may be even that another captaincy contender breaks through to England.

For captaincy, I'm gonna risk inciting the fury of a thousand forwards, but I'd be tempted to consider Burns. I know the taboo of giving backs/fly-halves the (c). But he's confident, chatty, likeable, is a student of the game (spends time analysing games with Twelvetrees) and can make quick decisions.

He also isn't guarenteed a starting position - in fact I still think Farrell will be looked at as the starter.
