The Haka

there was a letter in the Glasgow Herald a couple of weeks ago saying that the scotland team should respond to the haka when they play the all blacks next month at murrayfield.

what does everyone think? and how could they respond?

The Highland Fling?? Or perhaps they could come out in their kilts and moon the ABs... Or show them some real bolloxs!

God knows what they could do, but it would need to be pretty good to be credible.

To be honest a sole bag pipe player playing a "call to arms" type salute may capture the moment as long as it didn't go on forever.

Trouble is, once we start down this track, we will end up with the bloody english morris dancers out to greet the Haka next time we play at twickers :p

Yeah, mate - no better way. lmao

Seriously, though, there is only one way to deal with the Haka - stand there, admire the spectacle and thank your lucky stars that you were in some way a part of it.

I love the Haka. Personally, I think any orchestrated attempt to reply to it would pale in comparison.
Having said that though, I remember the Bokke advancing to the Haka in line abreast a few times... quality.

think about it though, in the modern day game ANYTHING to get a physcilogical edge over your opponents helps.

if the kiwis dont know before hand, it could take them by surprise and leave them flustered.

ive heard one suggestion of drawing a bottle of "buckie" from a brown paper bag and drinking it before performing a haka of sorts involving making signs to the oponents using a certain 2 fingers. :D

i know the welsh tried to reply with their national anthem - but that doesnt work as its already been used.

Problem with that is, it may hype the All Blacks more, and make them more angry.

At least the Scots won't make the All Blacks do the haka in the dressing room or something.

we could make them do it in bellsmire or something - the local neds would beat the **** oota them! :D

well it didn't do us that much damage that day, we only lost by 17 points to the world champions with a shite team

Well, as far as my knowledge goes, (and I`m sure I can be corrected by a Kiwi on here), the haka is supposed to be a war dance, a challenge set out, almost a call to arms. So it actually begs to be responded to. Not by making a mockery of one of the most awesome sights in world rugby, but do face up to it, show that you`re not afraid of the physical challenge being thrown at you.

Earn your opponent`s respect by facing up to it, and not backing down. Then do exactly the same on the field- don`t back down an inch, scrap like hell if you`re in a corner, and throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at the AB`s. If you front up, both at the haka and at the breakdown, you`ll be a helluva long way towards getting respect from them, and also towards being competitive.

They should scrap the Haka for the World Cup. It's **** and takes up too much time. This is rugby, not So You Think You Can Dance.

Scotland should not respond. Enjoy the spectacle and don't **** over it like the WRU did!
We were deprived of an awesome sight that day, i still haven't forgiven the WRU for being such *****es.

dont **** over it? im not sugesting we should make a mockery of it/force them to do it in private!

as bokmagic says, maori tradition is that one tribe will sing their song, and then the other tribe will respond, and then the first tribe will perform their haka, to which the other tribe will also respond. (although im no expert, ive heard this is what the tradition is - perhaps any kiwis on here could clear this up?)

and deprived of an awesome sight? if Scotland responded then it would make it a day that No fan there could ever forget! (and me really jealous - several family members have tickets! :( )
