The Pumas in the next 4 nations..... Rugby people in Argentina can't wait to see, the national team, being part of this tournament, including us! But due to the fact, we are going to face the most powerful rugby countries in the world....at least this first time, it's going to be harder, than ever!
We would like to receive comments, from all around the world, about it, what the rugby people think overseas....

Thanks

Puma show their crocs against the AB. I' sure that one day the puma will win against the AB and co. You bring a Latin touch, fantasies and creativities in the games. I'm fed up from these all cloned teams, same players, from the north to the south: bodybuilding shape, hard defensive, hard shock in the contacts but where is imaginations , craziness,. Argentina bring Marodana to the world, I think she's able to bring this part of difference and folies. ARRRENTINA!!!!

I duno.. New Zealand and Australia pull off some amazing plays along with the whole body building power game that is used these days. I hope Argentina give a good show though, but think it may be a while before they get a win.

I've read somewhere that Argentina has more pre-teen males than any other country in the world. I remember a figure of something like 500,000 15 year old, or something, play the game currently, but don't quote me.
With your inclusion into 'the rugby championship' and big steps being taken to professional rugby, in a domestic set up, and, I hear hopefully a Super Rugby franchise/s, thing are looking very good for Argentine rugby.

If all this hear say is true I reckon Argentina will win the world cup by 2019 or 2023.

Ever seen Christian Cullen or Israel Dagg? I'd hardly say NZ or Australia play a crash game. It's all about the flair. Argentina play a very conservative game in comparrison to Australia and NZ.

You are may be right , have some argentinians goods friends and why not.
The WC final look like a war of tranche, as it was the ultimate evolution of this sport. Strong defense, waiting for a try or a drop or a small window and at the end you have an intensiv play but without what I can compare with my bad english a fire on the field if you see what I mean. In the past it's looks like more possible'( I think with my old age), . When I was younger Wales was really a fantastic and full with light fulls actions. It's look like the team of majors nations in the rugby world seem more and more the same and at the end face to a wall of overbuilder men. It's just an impression, I'm not a spécialist I'm may be wrong, just talking.

Man, I'm impressed. I read that post with full understanding. But I have to say, No... all the major nations don't play the same and rely on the overbuilt players. NZ and Aus play a very dynamic running game when they want to and they are arguably the best at it. SA play a kick and chase type of game and it works very well for them. Wales really stepped up in the running department and were at one point tipped to be in the Final. England play on the back of their forwards and France play however they feel like playing on the day.....

SANZAR would like Argentina to stage two of their three home matches in their debut Rugby Championship next year in Buenos Aires, the ruling body's CEO Greg Peters said.

"I strongly recommend the UAR (Argentine Rugby Union) hold two games in Buenos Aires and one outside," the New Zealander told an official presentation of Argentina's participation in the tournament which succeeds the Tri Nations championship.
Peters, the CEO since last November of the body grouping Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, said his recommendation was based on the logistical concerns the visiting teams would face in Argentina over and above the long journey to get here.

He emphasized the importance of the new tournament by saying: "Next year we will have the first, second, fourth and seventh ranked teams in the world. We will have the best versus the best."

UAR president Luis Castillo said he would like to see the Pumas play their home matches in provincial venues as well as the capital.
Argentina will make their long awaited debut in a major international competition away to South Africa on August 18. On that day Australia will be at home to world champions New Zealand.

"This is an historic day for national (Argentine) rugby...We are committed to showing we can be better," said Castillo, adding that for the Pumas this was like entering Formula One.

Former Pumas captain Agustin Pichot, who has played an instrumental part in Argentina's invitation to the tournament, said the UAR had broken the perception that Argentines were unable to plan long term.

"After (third place at the World Cup in) 2007 we committed ourselves to forming a team off the field (to push this forward) because it was unfair that the Pumas weren't (in a major competition)," Pichot said.

"I felt this as a player the most important thing was that the players should have the opportunity. It's going to be very hard but that's how you learn."

A key factor in Argentina's participation was an International Board ruling obliging European clubs, where many of the Pumas play their rugby, to release them for the tournament and the June and November international windows.
SANZAR president Mike Eagle of New Zealand said SANZAR was keen to encourage Argentines to take part in competitions at all levels in the three SANZAR countries with the ultimate goal of a franchise in the Super 15 club competition.

"By having your players in the southern hemisphere, you won't have the problems you have (now) with your players in the northern hemisphere facing the restrictions of each country," he said.

IMO, they should initially be looking at two franchises, one in the NZ Conference and one in the Australia Conference (and based in those countries like the Pampas XV in the Vodacom Cup) and that would allow the Southern Kings to join in the South African conference.

And that would inevitably lead to this....

[TEXTAREA]
"The ultimate goal for Argentina should be really to have their own conference of Super Rugby down here playing in front of their own fans. That's why we've got a conference system and it's easy to add conferences," said SANZAR boss Mike Eagle.

"You'd actually have your own professional teams down here playing in your own conference as part of the Sanzar competition and then you'd be in charge of the destiny of your own players, you don't have to go and ask other clubs for their release and that would a win-win for everybody.
"I'd like to see Argentina become a part of Sanzar, not just an invited guest and to go forward to have a professional conference running out of here."

Argentina play more of a defensive game, that could be the key to winning against the giants of the sport like NZ,AUS,and SA. just a few years ago they played a great game, back in 2003 and 2005 they lost to South Africa by 1 point, they have also drawn with the All Blacks and defeated the Springboks. it's either the argentine's cause some major upsets or victory will sadly elude them...mind you the best place to play in Argentina most likely is Buenos Aires.

Are 4 conferences in 4 different countries (who are on the other sides of the world from each other) sustainable for 1 competition?

Wouldn't it make more sense for AUS and NZ to have a competition between themselves, The SA's to have the currie cup and then to join the Heineken Cup. And in time Argentina can have a joint competition with the USA, Canada, Brazil, Uruguay etc...

So which players will be able to play in the 4 nations then? Does this mean the Argentinians playing the in the French and english system will be realsed for the matches or not?

Could be a very under strength team me thinks if they don't have all their players back?

They are guarenteed to get all their players from Europe. It was part of the agreement to Argentina joining the Tri Nations, that they had to be able to field a full strength team. The IRB have allowed the correct player windows for the competition.

I think this is great for Arggie rugby. You only get better by playing better teams. Look at Italy. They have improved leaps since the 5 nations became 6.

This is going to leave the rest of north and south America in the dust.......

The UAR confirm venues for The Rugby Championship
[/h]

The rumours have been confirmed by the Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) that Argentina´s three home fixtures for the groundbreaking 2012 The Rugby Championship will be Mendoza, La Plata and Rosario. Argentina´s first ever home match will not take place in Buenos Aires or nearby but will be taken to the country´s fourth largest city of Mendoza which is located 1,100KM west of Argentina´s capital, Buenos Aires and 380KM east of Chile´s capital, Santiago. It will be the setting for Los Pumas vs the Springboks. Argentina´s second home match will come after playing both New Zealand and Australia in away matches with Los Pumas taking on the same two sides. The All Blacks will play at La Plata, 60KM from Buenos Aires and Australia will play at Argentina´s third largest city, Rosario which is 300KM from Buenos Aires.

Mendoza´s estadio Malvinas Argentina last hosted international rugby in 2007 with Argentina playing a June international match vs Italy and impressing with a comfortable win. Rosario´s Gigante de Arroyito most recently hosted Los Pumas in 2008 with the home side winning 21-15 vs Scotland. La Plata´s state of the art stadium has never hosted an international rugby match but the city was used for a 2010 match between Argentina A and France.

UAR President, Luis Castillo, was quoted on the official site of Argentina rugby as saying that "We are happy for having defined the cities and stadiums in which they (Los Pumas) will play its test matches during the 2012 The Rugby Championship. It will be a record year for Argentine rugby, in which Los Pumas will play twelve games in total, of which six are in the country, against the best powers of the world. It is certainly going to be a feast for all lovers of this sport".

It is exciting times for fans of global rugby with the confirmation that Argentina is not only going to play in The Rugby Championship but is to take its home matches to the people rather than use one city for all its home matches. It underlines the strength of Argentina as the number one option to host Rugby World Cup 2023 and supports the ideas that have been put forward by Argentina 2023 since its creation in mid 2010. The desire of having an increased number of competitive teams in global rugby depends greatly on the sport changing its outlook and with Los Pumas spreading its matches it is outdoing a number of the more traditional powers and is, consciously or not, preparing itself as a candidate to host a Rugby World Cup.

2015 hosts, England, have not hosted a test match outside of Twickenham for well over a decade. The last occassion was in 1998 when England´s World Cup qualifying matches vs Holland and Italy took place at Huddersfield. Aside from that England has hosted one match vs New Zealand at Manchester in 1997 and Argentina moved its match to the same venue in 2009. Prior to the 1997 match the last time that London´s Twickenham or Wembley did not host a home match for England was in seventy-four years earlier, in 1923 when England played Ireland at Leicester.

The Rugby Championship 2012
August 18 South Africa vs Argentina, Cape Town
August 25 Argentina vs South Africa, Mendoza
September 08 New Zealand vs Argentina, Wellington
September 15 Australia vs Argentina, Gold Coast
September 29 Argentina vs New Zealand, La Plata
October 06 Argentina vs Australia, Rosario

Nice to see that the Argentinian union did not simply bend over to SANZAR will to have their matches in Buenos Aires.

Nice to see that the Argentinian union did not simply bend over to SANZAR will to have their matches in Buenos Aires.

Absolutely.

Who are SANZAR to give instructions. Let the home union see the recomendations and then decide for themselves. I think the UAR have done well in distributing the matches. Córdoba is angry as its the second largest city and has a good, recently restructured stadium. It´ll likely host a 2013 tournament match, maybe vs South Africa. I like it how the IRB (or RWC Ltd to be exact) allows the host nation to organize the match venues and distribute them first rather than the IRB do it and give the host instructions. I think the NZRU know how to better use New Zealands stadiums than RWC Ltd. Oddly enough, maybe RWC ltd know how to ebtter use England´s stadiums than the RFU do!

The matter of the three June internationals is yet to be finalized. Italy play one test and France two. The venues are going to be three of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Salta and Resistencia. Buenos Aires will host one of the two matches vs France - thats guaranteed. The other will probably go to Córdoba whose last test was Argentina vs Italy in 2008. Resistencia hosted Argentina vs the French Barbarians in June 2011 so, despite the fullhouse, won´t be having France in 2012 while Salta last hosted a match in 2009 vs England. I´d think Salta will host Italy in 2012 with Resistencia hosting a 2013 match.

England is to play three tests in 2013- during the Lions tour.

Well, it's good for the provinces, but I think they did it mostly to obtain a sportive advantage. Making travel longer will not help the visiting nations.
If NZ or Oz were the ones going to Mendoza, the trip would be actually shorter than going to the any other city in Argentina (stoping in Santiago instead of BA), I get the feeling that they did the other countries' trips as long as they could... that's just not cool.

Utter nonsense

La Plata is really close to Buenos Aires. Its 60KM from the city and is the capital of Buenos Aires province. It has NEVER ever hosted a Pumas match. Thus, taking it there is a part of growing the game. The stadium is the newest in the country and continent. Its state of the art - unlike the River Plate Stadium. It hosted the Copa America Final in 2011. La Plata IS hosting for Buenos Aires. t is state of the art with beautiful viewing. Huge LED tv´s gang over the middle of the pitch. River Plate seats 15,000 more fans but has not been used by the UAR since 2002. Instead its been Velez Sarsfeld and Avallenada and neither is as big as La Plata which at 52,000 is larger than all venues that Argentina will play in in its away matches. La Plata is so close and easy to get there. Do teams complain about playing at St. Denis instead of Parc des Princes?

Buenos Aires, despite being the capital and having half the population does not have a great record in getting behind matches. Argentina vs Wales in 2006 was poorly attended. Matches in the interior are always successful. Matches in cities including Santa Fé, Salta, Tucumán, Córdoba, Resistencia, Mendoza, San Juan and Rosario have all been fullhouses or virtually full. Gold Coast seats fewer than 30,000. Eden Park is to be downsized to below 50,000 but be New Zealand´s largest stadium. Wellington is to be the next biggest at 38,000. Meanwhile La Plata is 53,000, Mendoza is 45,000 and Rosario is 41,000.

Wellington is further from Auckland than Rosario and La Plata are from Buenos Aires. Dunedin is two planes from Auckland not one. Argentina will play in Cape Town which is over 1,200KM from Johanesburg - where the players will arrive and leave. The stadium being used there is not the largest or newest in the city. Why is nobody complaining about them not using the much nicer new soccer made stadium? Also, Mendoza is slightly closer to Buenos Aires than Cape Town is to Buenos Aires. Obviously, the suggestion of making it as hard as possible for visiting teams is not accurate. Sydney-Gold Coast is around 700KM. Again, its not like Argentina are making it rough for anybody. Is New Zealand giving Argentina and South Africa tough schedules or is the logical explanation not that it wants to take matches to different stadiums and cities rather than only utilize the largest?

Buenos Aires will host one of the two matches vs France in June. Córdoba, Resistencia and Salta are competing for the other while one of these will also host Italy. This is fantastic. Argentina has the stadiums and is using them. Quite different to a number of others, notably England and Scotland.
