I dont buy that second version at all. Reading that it comes of as a professional player being dissapointed but gracious. I dont think its any more than that.

To be totally cynical, I reckon that Lancaster and his team had an input into what Cips said. That on basis that, "we know you are disappointed but feel that you should say something like this if you wish to remain in consideration for the future"!!
