Transfers 2012/13

Lee Thomas was injured for the first few months of the season, returning in late December so has only played 6 Top 14 matches so far, was a regular last season when Lyon were promoted but as you say Olly he is like this guy ...

@ Cyril, it's a bit harsh on the Ospreys to call them Pro D2 standard, although the team is a bit rubbish now Adam Jones and the scrum keeps them towards the top of the RaboPro12

do you think Gatland will not pick Bennett if he is playing Pro D2?
I don't think that's an issue at all, if he's playing well he should be picked. Even when he was performing awfully, Gatland still picked Bennett - I think he just loves his work rate... I dunno.
He picked Gav when he didn't even have a club and previously Charvis was our captain at a World Cup when he was unattached before joining Tarbes, so I doubt where he plays his rugby will be a problem.

I think they are more concerned about keeping Jonathan Davies.
They are bringing in Lewis Rawlins from Cross Keys and probably hoping Joel Galley can string a few matches together.

I heard that Rooney was being dispensed of?

Clearly Bennett's had enough of being on the sinking ship in Swansea and wants off. From all the stories he's hearing from Phillips, Byrne and Hook he probably fancies a new experience and broaden his horizons in France, regardless of what division their in. It'll still be a better standard of rugby than if he stayed at the Liberty. #Justsayin.
Anyone know how much game time Lee Thomas is getting at Lyon? He was a player I loved and never got the break I think he deserved.

Pretty sure I've read somewhere that Bennett wanted to stay but the Ospreys weren't prepared to offer him much. Having splashed to keep the likes of AWJ and Adam Jones, and with Hibbard first choice, it doesn't make much sense to take another large chunk of the salary cap to keep your second choice hooker.

Rhys Thomas (Blues) ---> London Wasps

Blues are gona need a quality hooker from somewhere. Haven't been at all impressed with Tyrrell or Breeze. Rhys Williams looks like a good prospect, but they need someone more experienced to complement him. They'll probably just stick with Tyrrell though <_<

@Dullonien: which front row would you prefer?

Cardiff Blues 2012/13

1. Yapp (Hobbs bench)
2. Tyrrell
3. Andrews (Corsi bench)

or Toulon 2012/13

1. Jenkins (Sheridan bench)
2. Bruno
3. Hayman (Kubriashvili bench)

seriously the Blues front row will be a big weakness next year unless they bring somebody in, a big shame Gill and Marc Jones aren't coming as they could have helped

looks like this season will be the last that a Welsh region gets through to the Heineken Cup quarter finals again in a while

Yeh, seriously weak front row unless they can bring in a few players. I'm sure they'll retain Felise, although he's way past his best aswell.

The pity is that the rest of the Blues team looks pretty good. They're got youngsters coming through in the second-row, have a strong back-row. With Tovey coming in they'll have an exciting halfback pairing. Centres are strong with Roberts and possibly Henson (if they retain him), and they've got a good back-three, especially with Blair back fit.

That front-row could really bottleneck this side. Is it certain that Gill isn't coming to the Blues, I though it was a possibility?

Suppose I can understand releasing Filise and Tito, as both aren't the players they were, and I'm sure Molitika will retire aswell, but I don't understand the reasoning behind releasing Henson. With gametime, he'll return to being a very, very good player, and there's a potentially awesome midfield pairing there in Henson ad Roberts, but again the Blues management are obsessed with Gavin Evans, and Dafydd Hewitt will probably be in front of Henson when he returns as well.

I wonder if the Ospreys will be interested in bringing Henson back. They need a quality centre to play alongside the ever improving Ashley Beck, and henson could be just that.

Overall though, dark times for the regions. If we're not careful the last 9 years of regional rugby might become a complete waste of time, with all the regions starting from scratch again. The only thing that's currently working is the academies. The WRU need to act fast here, if they plan on bringing in central contracts then they've gotta do it sharpish before there are no players left to contract.

Grindal to Bristol. Poor Bristol.

I beg to differ, something we lack at the moment is Premiership experience. We have all the promising youngsters in the world but of the side that played Friday night v Donny only 5 or 6 of the 23 have played there before. Grindal's Prem knowlege is going to be helpful

If we go up of course

I hope you do, but Prem quality is more important than Prem knowledge imo, and Grindal isn't that. Quite how he's survived as long at Leicester as he has is incredible, most Tigers fans I know get quite depressed when they see him hit the field. Maybe being a bigger fish in a smaller pond will suit him, but not a player I'd have wanted at my club.

Ian Evans knee still prevents him from full training.
He could be a good signing for us or the Scarlets.

Cory Allen will probably be brought in quickly to cover for Roberts, or they manage to find the funds to cover Henson. Fish at fullback then? He hasn't been setting to world alight in the Prem.

here is a look at some "skills" from the guy the Blues have signed to replace Parks

by the way Connacht seem to be getting carried away with their new signing ...
Parks will join Connacht on a two year deal which will see the legendary Scottish outhalf ply his trade at the Sportsground until at least the end of the 2013/14 season.
