Hey, my friends - can anyone tell me how the uniform colors work in rugby?

In other words, in the NFL, generally teams wear their darker colors at home, but the choice is up to the home team. So, a team like Miami often choose to wear their whites at home, because it's freaking hot in Miami.

Do rugby home teams decide as well? Or is it league governed? Country specific? Totally random?

Thanks as always!

Unlike American sports where away colours tend to be uniform ie white but with variation here and there UK sports tend to have a definitive colour for home matches.

E.G. Man Utd play in Red, Bath play in Blue/White/Black etc. by in large unless there is a colour clash (ie two teams wearing the same colour) team where a different colour for away matches which can be anything, may have tradition behind those colours.

Normally a league requires diffrent shirts for home/away but thats all about shirt sales there may also be alternative shirts based on competition as well. The aforementioned Bath play in black at home during European matches.

Thats the domestic game in international rugby you will rarely if ever see a team not wear thier national colours. A colour clash or a one off sponsorship are usually the only reasons.

Some clubs have special kits for European games, Exeter Chiefs each year have a European kit specially designed for that year, google them they are different but used specifically fir cup competitions.

Makes sense, thanks! It does crack me up when Gloucester, the "cherry and white," wear pink...

Chiefs wear black home kit, white away kit and a pink cup kit last year and light blue this year and older ones were totally different.

Mix cherry and white...spose you get pink :)

Good resale value too. One careful owner, never worn in knockout stages... :)
