Wakefield full-back Richard Mathers has had emergency surgery after suffering a ruptured testicle in the defeat by Wigan on Sunday.

Considering rugby players don't wear boxes and they're enouraged to hit round the waist and below, I'm surprised we dont see this injury more often.

I do wonder if more players will start to wear 'cups' if it would help prevent injuries like this.

Meh.

It's happened twice in Super League that I recall, both recently. Just tough luck.

You'd probably end up with a load of hip injuries should people start wearing boxes, they'll just transfer the force directly onto the ligaments.
This doesn't actually happen all that often, it just so happens that these two happened pretty close to each other.
