What's the deal with Ruan Pienaar?

DO you seriously agree with me or are you being sarcastic?
I seriously agree with you (this isn't sarcastic either). Don't let my thinly vailed semi-insult throw you. I think you have hit the nail on the head with this one.

Okay so was the insult really neccesary?

No, I suppose not.

However, this quickly turned to an argument, so that was the point I was making.

In my defence, I told others to calm down.

I'm like a peace maker...

sigh

Sorry rugbywriter. I wouldn't tolerate that from someone else, and I respect the way you delt with that, Good job. +1

I can understand the arguement about him being on the bench because he takes up less space then having a specialist in each position, but I don't understand why people would want him at fullback considering that he is deffinitely not the next best to Francois Steyn. I know that that is just "my opinion", but you can't honestly say that you believe with all your heart that Ruan Pienaar is South Africa's next best fullback. Besides, if he is such a wonderful scrumhalf, why then do so many people want to see him played in other positions. It just doesn't make sense.

You have your facts wrong with regards to the B&I Lions game. The game in Durban was the game when the Boks were well behind. Then PDV brought on Morne Steyn and Jaques Fourie and Jaques Fourie scored that try and Morne won the Boks the series with his kick. The first game was the one where the Boks were leading, and that was at Loftus or Jo'burg.

And you don't agree with my sum-up? SO you either feel:

(A) That he IS the second best scrumhalf? If that's so, why do you want to see him playing fullback when the scrumhalf position is available? Also, how many times to guys like Sarel Pretorious and Dewaldt Duvenhage have to out-perform him for you to feel that they are perhaps better? 100 matches? 200 matches?

(B) That he IS the second best fly-half? I don't even want to argue this point. If you think that he is the next best flyhalf to Morne Steyn then I really don't want to argue with you.

(C) That he is the best fullback. You say Riaan Viljoen is too inexperienced at Super14 level, but look at how inexperienced Aplon is and look how good he's proven himself to be? The problem with most South Africans is that they pick players based on reputation, not form. That's why the cricket team is an absolute joke, all the big names in there haven't performed in years yet they keep getting picked. Congrats Proteas, you beat the West Indies! What an achievement. Anyways, back to rugby, while Pienaar might have a fair bit of experience, he has just about no experience at fullback. Why put him there when we have fantastic specialists waiting in the wings?

I'm afraid it's you that has got the facts wrong, the Durban game was the first game in the B & I series, and the second test (at Loftus/ Ellis Park) was the test where the series was won with Morne's Kick- Don't believe me? Look it up!

I am not one of those people who say "He plays better at scrum-half" when he has a bad game, if he has a bad game, well then he has a bad game.

I would prefer to see him start at scrum-half now that du Preez is injured, but obviously PDV has his attachments (quota or not) with Januarie, so there is little chance of Pienaar starting there.
A) Sarel Pretorius was not even the first choice scrum-half for the Cheetahs until midway through the S14 season, and Duvenange has definitely not out-performed Pienaar, not throughout the whole S14 anyway. And back to the issue of experience. Sarel and Duvenange have not even played 2 full seasons of S14 (Sarel has not even played one, Duvenange has had little game time before this season.

B) No, I believe the order of fly-halfs (this season anyways) is Morne, Grant and then Pienaar. (I haven't seen enough of James this last season, due to injury I suppose)

C) Gio Aplon is NOT inexperienced, he is 27 years old or so, and has played lots of sevens rugby, and has well in the CC when he has played. For at least the 5th time I say that I feel that Aplon is far too small, and one solid hit from say a New Zealand forward will send him off on a stretcher, which is the last thing you want ( Once again I say if he is going to be played, play him on the wing, as we are in short supply)
I have explained enough about inexperience with regards to Viljoen

At the end of the day, I believe Ruaan Pienaar is a class player, who deserves the bare minimum of being on the bench, where as you clearly think he is ****, you might say that "I'm not saying he is completely useless", but you demonstrate your true opinion through your constant slagging of him.

You still have not answered my original question, Who do support, the Cheetahs or the Bulls?
