When was the last time the All Blacks failed to score and lost?

You know how it is. You're having a chat with some mates over a few beers and someone asks a question to which no-one knows the answer.

It all started with England failing to score against South Africa last month. Then it was asked when did New Zealand last fail to score. Sadly, I'm old enough to remember a match in 1963 (I think) when they failed to score against Scotland - but then the Scots also failed. We suspect this was the last time an international match ended scoreless.

So the question was expanded to when (if ever) the ABs have failed to score and lost.

Ideally I'd love to see a website that has all the international results on a database but I suspect this is too much to ask...

Well I've looked through the database on AllBlacks.com here's what I found:

3-0 loss against Wales in 1905:

11-0 loss against Australia in 1910:

0-0 draw against South Africa in 1921:

17-0 loss against South Africa in 1928:

So to answer your question, the last time the All Blacks were shutout in a game and lost was in 1960 against South Africa in Joburgh. I can't forsee any time in the future where the All Blacks can be blanked, especially in the modern game.

On a side note, I love all the stats and records kept by the NZRU and make it available to the public.

well they were held scoreless by austrailia in 19dickedy2 but managed to win through some shocking maths

Wow! Thanks ever so much. I couldn't have hoped for a more comprehensive reply.

does a 0-0 draw happen when 30 men agree that the pub would be a more suitable place to be?

No worries, I found it a very interesting question. Plus it was easy to find the answer.
