French winger Yohan Huget has been removed from the France squad for the World Cup due to his failure to turn up to three consecutive drugs tests, which is the equivalent of a positive test.

The official announcement was announced at 11 o'clock today and Huget has made his way back to Bayonne after leaving the French camp in Marcoussis. The punishment for his three missed tests could be between three to eighteen months. Huget has taken responsibility and accused himself of "negligence". He said that he missed the first drug test because he "incorrectly filled the location" the second because he was "with the France team on the eve of their match against Wales" and the third because "a team photoshoot was organised at the last minute". The French management team have announced that no replacement will be named for Huget in the 33 man (now 32 man) World Cup training squad

Huget made his debut in November 2010 and has so far struggled in his international career and has yet to score a try in seven caps and didn't have the best Six Nations campaign, and was involved in the French team's thrashing at the hands of the Wallabies also. However despite this he had an outstanding domestic season for Bayonne last season and scored 12 tries after joining the Basque side from Agen in 2010 .

So Lievremont will be allowed to call back one player ?

We really need an other center, especially a second center (I don't think Rougerie will be able to play).

We already have 4 wingers (Palisson, Clerc, Medard, Heymans), 3 fullbacks (Palisson, Heymans, Medard), but only 3 centers (12. Estebanez-Mermoz 13. Marty).

Reckon Mathieu Bastareaud may be selected to fill the spot?

Is Rougerie injured?

Poetrenaud should be the man. I really rate him as a 12, and he's been a pretty hand 15 in the past, too. A shame about Huget, though. I quite like him. But then I seem to like all the French wingers. Sometimes a bit too much. I still have an unexplainable man-crush on Vincent Clerc.

@nick

Lievremont just said he won't take any other player, as he still need to exclude two of them. And about Rougerie, yes he is injured, but he's in the squad. Nobody at the moment knows whether or not he'll be able to play for the RWC. And there's no chance for Bastareaud to join the squad, as he didn't respect what Lievremont expected from him (lose weight).

@Dunc

Poitrenaud has the n12 jersey with Toulouse, but he always played second center (13). He doesn't want to get the n13 jersey because he is superstitious, he's been injured with this jersey few years ago. Anyway, he had an outstanding end of season as a second center, and should have deserved a chance in the squad. Marty is not bad, but he's not as explosive as Rougerie or Poitrenaud.

And yes, we definitely have some talent on the wings (especially with Medard Clerc and heymans - remember that try against the AB last year !-),what i'm really concerned about are our centers. We have a pool a talented guys, Fritz, Jauzion, David, Mermoz, Rougerie, Poitrenaud and of course Bastareaud (if only he was fitter), but only Mermoz will in New Zealand. Such a shame.

...and they took the picture of the articles I posted on the France RWC thread !

yes they did :lol:

This year's Benjamin Fall.

Benjamin Fall was the opposite, he was good in the France jersey but lost his place due too poor form for Racing-Métro, he's quite injury prone as well which doesn't help

I still think Jauzion is France's best centre and has been dropped harshly, and is much better than Estebanez, I also think that when Poitrenaud plays well he's the full back in Europe, but he self destructs time and time again and it clouds what a good player he can be

Well, I would like to see Benjamin Fall again for France. If there is one winger in France that I love (other than Haymans) it's Marc Andreu. What's his chances? I never know anything with the French squad.

If they're after a centre, I guess you'd have to take Jauzion. There is no doubt he'd add experience and confidence to the squad, if nothing else.

Clerc and Rougerie are apparently fit.
Julien Malzieu anyone?

Clerc was supposed to join the practives today, but he didn't. Rougerie is already training and he may play in the warm-up matches.

Lièvremont doesn't like Malzieu. He's an outstanding finisher and always gains meters, but it's true that he's a bit one-dimensional and can only play 11...

Yeah, right...

... 15 mins later you posted that title ...

seriously, that time thing on Planet Rugby is wrong, when I was writing this article (which I started some minutes after the date posted) nothing was on PR

the fact they seem to have copied the picture from Aout's post further backs me up
