Ireland v England - 19 August 2023

Weirdly I have some confidence that England will put in a performance here. I think we will play better because we’re facing much better opposition. As far as I’m concerned Ireland don’t really need this game - they are fairly sure of their best 15 and all that could happen here is a couple of big players get injured. Ireland by 10.

I dont mind losing to Ireland, i really dont i mean they are world No.1 (i think) and a settled and solid team that have built and have earned favourites tag.

What i want to see is us stepping up and putting in a performance.

Id actually go pretty similar team,

Marler George Stuart
Itoje Martin
Curry Earl Willis
Youngs Ford
Lawrence Marchant
Watson Steward(maybe) Arundell(another chance) he lacks experience.

Dan
Genge
Sinks (more exciting front row to come off the bench as a unit)
Lawes (Curry isnt fit then Lawes starts 6, JHill here)
Ludlam/Billy does Billy need another chance?
Care
Smith
Manu

That would be my 23

I keep telling everyone, keep your expectations low and then you won't have the inevitable disappointment. Haven't people learned from last week?

If we are picking then.

Genge, George, Cole
Martin, Ribbans (Itoje needs kick up backside)
Curry, Willis, Ludlam
Youngs, Ford
Lawrence, Manu
Daly, Arundell, Watson

Walker
Marler
Sinckler
Lawes
Earl
Care
Smith
Marchant

If we're doing teams:

Porter Sheehan Furlong
Ryan Beirne
POM Doris VdF
Fetish Byrne
Henshaw Ringer
Hansen Keenan Lowe

Kelleher Healy Bealham Henderson Baird Casey Crowley Aki

God, we're good.

England could put the worlds best 15 out, but if we don’t sort our tactics out we’d still lose.

I just wonder if SB has the bravery and brains to realise that his plan isn’t working so far and that you have to score to actually win games.

Ewels, Steward, who’s next?

With Farrell out of the way odds have to be on Manu if fit. Maybe Arundell mistiming a high ball challenge.

Genge, Sinckler or Marler also all perfectly capable of doing something daft - as any self respecting prop should be.

But the fates are against us, so I reckon George will get a tackle wrong leaving us to navigate the group stages with the trusted Dan Walker - wasn’t he a sports presenter?

I would like to see a change at full back, either Watson, Arundell or Daly. I just want to see a quicker pace and that way we get our flyers onto the pitch. Steward is a crash unit and increasingly more like an English, Jordie Barrett.

Arundell would be a sink or swim. Daly’s already sunk and Watson’s shown he can swim.

If Steward doesn’t play in any of the big games, Watson’s the only real alternative. We’re short of wings but I’d rather take a risk there than 15.
