USA news & politics

I suspect that Witkoff was told a deal was very close/as good as done when he was in Moscow and the Russians basically set a trap and TACO took the bait. Putin wins big by getting air time and validation next to POTUS on US soil. His domestic audience just got some grade A political porn. Trump heads back to DC with his tail between his legs.

TACO and his administration are showing themselves to be a bunch of amateurs like many knew they always were. I bet Vance is glad he wasn't part of that **** show.
This is what I mean about weaknesses in his team. Witkoff is not a diplomat, he's not a Russia expert. America has got some very formidable diplomats and have a long history of dealing with Moscow but I don't see any of that at the minute. It's ok having loyal people around you but you also have to have some competency as well.

Trump is a 5d chess super genius, after all he became president twice and is a billionaire, he must know what he's doing filling all important roles with sycophants rather than competent people...

Let's not forget that part of the reason he is teetotal is to give him the edge over who he is dealing with. Oh wait....

Well, even by Trump's rock bottom standards, that was a complete sh**show. Putin once again played him like a fiddle. I don't like the guy, but there is a tiny part of me that takes pleasure in him making Trump look like a tw*t. Putin got his photo-opp next to the US president and, in the mind of probably many countries outside Europe, a newly re-gained legitimacy on the World Stage. His period of being persona non-grata to World leaders is over - and what concessions did he make?. Apparently, none. “Severe Consequences if Putin doesn’t agree to a ceasefire “. Yeah, sure mate - embarrassing.

I think there was a deal but not on Ukraine. All those RU-US meetings during recent times.. strongly doubt that Ukraine is the main topic there. Hopefully I'm wrong

This is the real issue with Trump, I can't think of another president who I could fully believe would sell out his country to a hostile power if it benefitted him personally. With Trump, I don't just find it possible, but plausible.

Trump views the presidency and the entire administration and country as little more than an extension of himself.

Tried the carrot, tried the stick.

Putin has a strong and strengthening position. Let him negotiate with the master deal makers at the EU. Support for continuing this is at rock bottom here.

Stop funding this war and let’s see what happens. Maybe some of keyboard warrior on here can go over there and fight.

Are you in favour of cutting all ties with Israel as well?

What carrot and stick?

You've done nothing to Putin than make idle threats. Putin owned the meeting yesterday, spoke first and for longer. Trump looked the weaker of the two. Ukraine didn't get shafted so that's a plus.

The only good thing to come out of this is Europe is reminded it can't rely on America.

You've Tried **** all, because your Dear Leader is a gormless prick.
What more should we do @Ddanno?

Send more money? Send more weapons? Increased sanctions on Russia? Increased sanctions on countries who buy Russian oil?

Tell me, in very specific terms, what EXACTLY would you like us to do to help the Ukrainians?

We’ve sent advanced weaponry to Ukraine. We’ve sanctioned India to buying Russian gas. That’s just the last few weeks.

Interesting, im not sure what to think of the Alaska meeting yet, Putin travels to meet Trump, and as of yet we know very little outside of there being no major breakthrough.

The call for aggression from Trump is flat out stupidity, Putin has responded to a meet by agreeing, and again reiterates had Trump been in power the invasion might not have gone ahead. Also Putin breaking into English is a real rarity.

But then those who hate Trump will criticise him scratching his butt as a nazi dog whistle, and those who love him will view the scratch as a patriotic salute... all I know is that both these types of people are wrong.
