The judgement for Epping Forrest DC vs Somani Hotels Ltd. Is up on Judiciary.com for those interested and time on there hands

Looks like the main arguements were on the change of use. The council had been saying for a number of years that different applications were needed as it was a substantive change of use. The Home Office argued it was still a hotel and it wasn't needed.

The judgement also took into account the impact on the local community. 180 single men in the property vs paying guests and visitors. Within a town of 11k.

Sadly ill probably read through some later...

I thought the change of use would have presented an issue (not specifically in Eppings case, but in general) I read similar arguments about that previously.

Interesting about the effects on local community though, that could have big ramifications going forward you think?

Not sure to be honest. I'm guessing they might try and argue, that it would be similar to when a community protection notice is issued.

It would be based on the question is a premises or person having an immediate, persistent, unreasonable and detrimental effect on the local area. You could argue that the protest and hotel are impacting on poor old Dorris down the road who just wants a quiet life and now the streets full of tv crews, the police and protestester from both sides.

Listening to the radio a hotel by law is a premises that doesn't have residents stay more than 30 days. It's really a HMO in this case and the rules are very different. (Newsagents pod).

So the question is, is there will to use this as precedent throughout more councils.

I can imagine the usual suspects will issue enforcement notices, or apply for injunctions, but christ, this couldn't be worse timing. With all the anti immigration protests on the up, September's big one around the corner, and anti protests etc, the last thing needed was a boost to Reform.

Not really politics but wasn't sure where else to post

BBC News - Taking 23 A-Levels 'not stressful at all' says Slough student - BBC News

Taking 23 A levels is absolutely bonkers. I have no idea how on earth she managed it, it's incredible.

I'd like to see her grades and subjects rather than list amount. Theres probably a fair bit of cross knowledge and a distinct lack of coursework. Couple that with A-Levels are still about regurgitation and someone who spend every waking hour studying rather than anything else and it makes sense.

I barely scraped by my A-Levels whilst also working 1.5 days a week and probably reading a 500+ page novel a week. Barely turning up to classes and dossing around when at College. Now switch all that time to actually applying yourself to your studies and its not difficult to see how it can be achieved.

Will be interesting to see how she becomes a surgeon having not built up any dexterity through other pursuits as a child.

It says she hasn't sacrificed her life to studying so not sure that's fair to say

This could get interesting, they're obviously trying to get strumpet to stick his oar in.

The UK would be better just blocking the site.
Was always going to happen. You can't regulate the Internet properly when the people breaking the law aren't even in the country.

Interesting battle...

The UK will probably have to end up blocking the site, as its deemed harmful content lol. Nothing to see here though, this is not China esque, and free speech is still allowed hahaha, well hopefully that turns out to be hyperbolic, but what else can they do?

I keep reading that the UK has backed down in its technical capabilities notice to Apple, but cant seem to find Home Office or Apple statements, just US. This was always an absurd attempt ffs.
