A Political Thread pt. 2

It's worth remembering that Blair was a political leader in an era when leaders were held to much higher standards and international law and the institutions that upheld it were more respected. Scandals and law breaking would have ended careers back in those (good old) days.

Given his role as Middle East envoy and overall experience in general I suspect it would be difficult to find someone more qualified to do that role.

I would assume the digital ID cards is Mahmood's idea. Don't have an issue with it as long as they don't make a dog's dinner of the rollout.

Look at other countries who have done it well and copy the best bits. They should also 'sell' the practical benefits of it e.g. not having to send copies of passport/proof of address when applying for a bank account or similar. Yes checking people's right to live/work is the primary objective but try and add in some practical benefits which will make it an easier sell.

And George Bush. I've made this point before but Bush is like an intellectual and political heavyweight by today's standards.

If he was POTUS today even as pro Israel as he was I'm pretty sure he'd be exerting a lot more influence on Netenyahu (or at least a hell of a lot more than Trump anyway)

Massive school boy error anyone with a basic knowledge knows most common law stuff has a 6 month statutory limit.

Timed out is the easiest goal as a defence team, and the prosecution should have spotted it and never run with it.

Political and media pressure to trump up some charges against these lads.

Israel have thoroughly lost the PR war. They have managed to take a situation where they had near unanimous global sympathy and instead become a pariah state. If the USA turns it's back on them in the future, they risk having no friends left.
