A Political Thread pt. 2

Fascinating race though, Adam's pausing his campaign, Duomo in secret talks with Trump, Mamdani has them all shaking
Does he really though? I'm not so sure. I doubt he's even very popular amongst then Dems very much like Bernie which is why he had a snowballs chance in hell of winning anything.

How old is your eldest daughter? The first book is great but does steadily get darker.

Not old enough tbh, but shes seen all the movies, its always Harry Potter or Jurassic park/world night in our house recently, with a sprinkle of Kpop demon hunters...

I ised to be young and cool, now I complain about politics on an rugby forum to the backdrop of wizards, dinosaurs or Kpop stars

She'll be alright. Girls are more emotionally intelligent and all round more mature than boys at that age (and most other ages as well to be honest)

Is Mandani actually a serious candidate, though. I mean winning in NY means **** all really doesn't it?

What do you mean he’s 80+% to win the mayoral election

NY mayor is prob the biggest mayoral figure in America prob in terms of status. Having a socialist mayor in the capital of capitalism is insane idea that many would never have thought would happen

On a larger scale he prob isn’t a candidate but white liberal Christian could prob take his ideas and do very well.

Hes polling at double that of Cuomo i think, Duomo and Eric Adam's are looking for outs to notnrun against him I think. I also think Trumps trying to tempt them to unify the democrat vote for Silva maybe.

lol the dems don't even like the Dems it's why he is popular he isn't viewed as a democrat

Bernie's fault really was he towed the dem party line for too long in the hope they would shift their position. Progressive dems have now learnt from him and are starting to be very vocal in their push back on the dem elite

We’ll see I guess. My feeling is that he’s about as electable as me but then I did think Trump was in 2016.

So are the Dems finished now. Is he going to become POTUS in 5 years as an independent?

Dems will never be finished, but you will see more outliners start to push for prominent positions.

What you will see now is the vocal left punch back against the chuck schumer core. Something Bernie never fully did.

But the Dems will stay relevant as no one will want to be an independent and republicans have gone to bed with the far right and therefore they will always have a large opposition to it.

Id add hes a Muslim, which has become a large part of his race, especially with his stance on Isreal and Gaza, which has increased his popularity.

His ideas are too grand for New York, but I like that hes standing on them, he shows some principle and doesnt just use his religion, skin colour etc for points, they are part of his identity he doesnt apologise for, but he isnt a Waters type

I think as we see Schumer, Pelosi, Waters and another wave of elite Dems essentially retire and die off there will be radical change from a large progressive younger politician.

My money will be on him fading into obscurity after being shunned by the then Dems as they’ll know that even though he’s not actually a socialist he’ll be tagged as one/communist and it’ll be game over for him.

Harry Potter will absolutely smash it would be my guess. Peope don't give a **** about Rowling's views on trans people. Your average person, myself included, is good at separating the art from the artist. I guess we all have our red lines, though. I can't see the viewing numbers being affected however.
Dude please read death of an author and understand it, its got bugger all to do with this conversation and is a critical argument to whether authorial intent should be examined when examining a piece of art. Which is what is meant when people say separating art from the artist.

I however agree more people couldn't give a damn about JKR being a piece of ****, indirectly funding transphobia and validating views of the bigot (she has said she sees everyone who gives her money as validation to it) when buying a Hufflepuff hoody than those who do.

I think the series will fail because there's a perfectly fine adaptation that most people love and nobody wants a new one.

This is where I disagree I think the series will go into more depth than the movies; plus got to remember it well over a decade since they finished. Whilst still very watchable, they had their limitations. Plus a new generation will want to watch it.

Hogwarts Legacy made a ton even with calls to boycott the game. The last film was only a couple of years after Oasis split 2009 vs 2011. Nostalgia and missing out the first time sells.

King's Cross is my main London Stn and watching the ques for the platform 9 3/4 sign. I think the boy wizard will be fine, even if the show isn't that good

I find Lewis Carroll a tad icky but don't begrudge people liking all things Alice in Wonderland.

The biggest factor is its produced by HBO. It’ll be decent and will be surprised if it’s anything other than a massive success.

I’ve been known to be wrong on occasion, though.

Unless Lewis Carroll has come back from the dead and is drawing attention to himself sticking it to transpersons I'm unsure why you're bringing him up
